The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Sr. Design Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Design of feedblocks, dies and other miscellaneous melt processing equipment from initial concept through plant commissioning, working closely with product teams, fabrication, process engineers and plant personnel
Provide specialized equipment to support the development of new film products
Develop and deploy new technologies to advance film manufacturing capabilities
Manage project schedules and budgets
Assist in troubleshooting and support of existing manufacturing infrastructure
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start)
Two (2) years of experience in design of process related capital equipment in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Bachelor’s degree w/ 2+ yrs of experience or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Proficient with NX (Unigraphics) CAD modeling software
Experience with ANSYS software and application of finite element modeling techniques to solve structural, thermal and computational fluid dynamic problems
Understanding of polymer film manufacturing processes and equipment
Experience with start-up, troubleshooting and commissioning of capital manufacturing equipment
Management and execution of multiple projects in parallel
Ability to work independently or as part of larger cross functional team
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Work location:
Hybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require travel to 3M Center (Maplewood, MN) at least [3] days per week)
Travel: May include up to 10% (domestic)
