:As an MTS 1, Software Engineer, you will architect and lead the development of backend systems, drive innovation, and mentor the team. Your day-to-day:
Demonstrate end-to-end ownership of features, projects, modules, and services that you and your team deliver in all phases of the software development lifecycle.
Lead your team’s design and implementation of end-to-end solutions towards new payment experiences using various technologies.
Optimize software performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks via monitoring, logging, and metrics to enhance the user experience.
Act as a strong advocate for clean and scalable principles and practices in all areas, including coding, documentation, automation, etc.
Be a champion of high-performing, secure, and reliable software services.
Identify critical non-functional requirements for the work your team prioritizes (Availability, Security, Performance, Scalability, and Observability), and implement them with your team.
Actively contribute improvements to our automated test strategies to enable speedy and reliable continuous integration.
Guide continuous improvements to our build and deploy processes.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with all technical and non-technical partners and stakeholders (Architecture, Developer Experience, Product, Design, Analytics, Legal, Marketing, etc.).
Conduct formal and informal code reviews, providing constructive feedback to team members to ensure code quality and adherence to clean and scalable coding principles.
Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and promoting a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
Stay up-to-date with the latest industry standards, tools, and technologies related to Data Infrastructure development, and DevOps practices, and drive their adoption within the team.
Advocate for ways to avoid and remediate technical debt continuously.
Participate in program planning, influencing the product and technology roadmap and driving outcomes.
What you need to bring:
6+ years of professional experience in software development, with a strong emphasis on backend development in TypeScript and Java.
Experience with modern data warehousing technologies (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Apache Iceberg) and has informed perspectives on their advantages, limitations, and how they fit into evolving data architectures.
High proficiency and strong skills in Cloud Technologies, object-oriented, and functional programming, and familiarity with AWS Lambda, Dynamo DB, and hands-on Typescript experience.
Experience in building high-scale, high-throughput, low-latency systems.
Strong problem-solving skills, possessing the ability to work independently or collaboratively to analyze and address complex technical challenges.
Experience with modern software development practices, version control systems, and agile methodologies.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Strong attention to detail, as well as a passion for delivering high-quality software solutions.
Ability to mentor and up-level team members.
Proven track record of collaborating with teammates in non-technical roles, such as marketing, finance, and legal.

The US national annual pay range for this role is $123,500 to $212,850 For the majority of employees, PayPal's balanced hybrid work model offers 3 days in the office for effective in-person collaboration and 2 days at your choice of either the PayPal office or your home workspace, ensuring that you equally have the benefits and conveniences of both locations.
