Sr. Storage Engineer - Remote

The Sr. Storage Engineer works in the company's Information Technology department and provides expertise for the company's NetApp and Commvault infrastructure. This position is responsible for support of technical products and systems related to NetApp flash and NVMe storage arrays, NetApp ONTAP and Active IQ, and Commvault backup infrastructure. It is a technical resource interacting with all other Information Technology personnel to identify and correct issues.
Duties and Responsibilities Creates and implements storage systems configuration designs of high complexity
Utilizes technical knowledge, demonstrated experience, and exercises judgment in completing assigned tasks in an efficient and timely manner
Participate in after-hours support on-call rotation and project work
Develops new procedures based on technical solutions
Recommends and leads projects requiring complex technical decision making and provides input to delivery schedules
Performs complex technical work requiring demonstrated experience in the application of advanced techniques and in carrying out tasks; utilizes extensive experience and knowledge to improve the existing processes and company operating procedures; accomplishes tasks and projects within defined time lines and in a professional manner
Develops capacity planning models to be used as input to strategic decision making
Creates complex target storage layout with an emphasis on reliability, scalability and serviceability
Supports and/or performs the installation, extension and configuration of Storage infrastructure, including switches, fiber, disks, shelves, enclosures, controllers and data replication hardware
Responsible for own schedules and work assignments
Records and reports project status and metrics
Consistently maintains overall department objectives and project goals.
Supervises and assists incident response on storage hardware
Establishes procedures for and performs storage systems maintenance; accepts input from management and customers in design
Designs and implements client host configuration and maintains best practices
Selects, implements, schedules and supports backup systems
Develops policies and processes for scheduled backup and recovery strategy; restores and recovers data where necessary
Provides training and training materials for storage-recovery related products and policies
Performs support of production and development SAN and NAS systems, including diagnosis and response to capacity, availability and performance related issues
Provides clear, concise and complete operational change communication and appropriate problem notification/escalation communication according to established procedures
Provides root cause problem analysis, along with recommendations and implementations of preventive techniques
Provides problem resolution by making full and appropriate use of internal and external resources, including vendors
Creates design documents, RAID group assignments, LUN assignments, host configurations and performs switch zoning
Creates and implements data replication and disaster recovery plans, methods, and techniques and testing
Evaluates and creates processes around storage management related software installation and configurations
Maintains appropriate records of licensing and capacity of all equipment
Develops and implements monitoring solutions to assist in the availability of storage services
Proactively monitors and manages SAN, NAS and server disk space and I/O utilization
Schedules and selects firmware and security-related upgrades to SAN switches, hbas, controllers, disks, etc. during maintenance windows
Continually researches, learns and acquires new knowledge to improve operational services; communicates this knowledge to enhance our overall knowledge and competency level
Takes the lead in communications and vendor management
Defines and maintains policies and configurations around capacity management, performance management and availability management
Maintains policy and procedural changes to improve operational integrity and service delivery
Analyzes storage, recovery, and monitoring technologies in order to provide input for strategic direction setting
Identifies storage assets, discusses projected growth rates with management, and reviews and enhances current storage change control procedures
Analyses storage consumption and I/O performance on an application, host, LUN, volume or group level and provides accurate trend analysis
Keeps abreast of technical trends; develops and incorporates them within assignments as appropriate; drives technical improvements and procedural changes within the Operations Group
Communicates technical issues within scope of assignments to management and peers
Works under minimal supervision
Assists in training more junior members of team; typically takes the lead role in more complex initiatives or projects
Participates in peer reviews; assists more junior members of team
Regular attendance is an essential function of the position

Requirements
Education and Experience
Education Requirements Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience in computer science/information systems or related field is preferred
Years of Experience 4 to 6 years of Senior Level Storage Engineer experience in designing, implementing, managing, and supporting mid to large Enterprise Storage environments
4 to 6 years of equivalent previous enterprise storage administration experience
Skills Demonstrate strong experience with the design, engineering, and implementation of complex storage environments
Demonstrate strong experience with performance monitoring, analysis, and tuning of large Enterprise Storage environments
Have solid hands-on experience with the following storage products: NetApp c-mode 8.x – 9.x
NetApp PowerShell
ONTAP CLI
Have solid hands-on experience with the following Operating systems:
RedHat Linux RHEL 7.x – 9.x
Windows 2019 – 2025
Have hands-on experience with VMWare 8.x:
Configuration of SAN devices
Configuration of Multipathing software
Demonstrates proficiency in scripting languages such as Microsoft PowerShell or Bash script
Have hands-on experience with Enterprise Backup Solutions:
Demonstrate strong understanding of the Fiber Channel and NVMe protocols
Demonstrate strong understanding of the NAS protocols
Have hands-on experience with CommVault Backup and Recovery solution
Have excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure, to solve technical problems quickly (minutes or hours)
Capability to automate processes and solutions using available tools, and to develop in house tools where necessary
Ability to make presentations to audiences of professional peers, and work closely and openly with management
Proven ability to develop and document solutions and configurations is required
Strong hands-on experience working in large, business critical production support environments required
Demonstrated commitment to customer service and customer satisfaction required
Physical Requirements General office environment requiring ability to: Stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time.
Speak and listen to others in person and over the phone and video conferencing.
Use keyboard and read from computer screen and reports.
The ability to lift up to 15 lbs.
