What You'll Do
Lead full lifecycle projects from design and development through roll out and maintenance to build new features for products written in Rust, Go, and Python, ensuring compatibility with the latest Fastly products and features.
Design and implement new Fastly features and enhancements for these products, based on customer feedback and modern best practices, writing code that is performant, maintainable, clear, and concise.
Identify, diagnose, and resolve issues within the products, with a focus on performance and reliability at scale.
Ensure timely and effective solutions to maintain high-quality customer experiences.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, including cloud engineers, product managers, and customer support teams to understand user requirements and address issues related to the products.
Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for the products, including usage guides, best practices, and troubleshooting resources.
What We're Looking For :
Significant professional experience building high-reliability distributed systems. Most Staff Engineers at Fastly have more than 7 years of related experience.
At least 5 years of experience with the Rust and Python programming languages.
At least 2 years of experience working with technologies such as semantic caching, API design, model gardens, and embedding models.
Experience at creating clear, concise, and comprehensive technical documentation.
Experience working with customer support teams, and directly with customers, to diagnose and troubleshoot problems.
Experience mentoring, guiding, and coaching team members
Ability to learn new skills and share what you’ve learned with the broader team
We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:
Cloud/serverless platforms
Python virtual environments and packaging
Pytorch/Tensorflow libraries
A passion for learning new languages
Experience using OAuth and JWT authentication methods
Software testing frameworks and code coverage analysis tools
Terraform
Note on the Interview Process:
At Fastly we have a comprehensive multi stage interview process that is kind to both the interviewer and interviewees. Please be ready to bring to the technical interview round a significantly complex piece of code that you can talk about both in its functionality and the development process where you had to solve challenges and the solutions you came up with.
Work Hours:
This position will require you to be available during core business hours and occasional nights and weekends as necessary to support the on-call rotation.

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home. Salary:
The estimated salary range for this position is $195,720 to $234,864
Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
