PagerDuty is seeking a Staff Software Engineer V - PagerDuty Automation to join our diverse, customer-focused team! As a Staff Software Engineer V, you will work across two teams on all things automation for PagerDuty. This is an exciting opportunity to drive automation architecture across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Java, AWS, Kubernetes, and SaaS experience in large-scale environments. PagerDuty Workflow Automation enables enterprise teams to automate end-to-end incident response and operational workflows, significantly enhancing reliability, reducing incident response times, and driving operational excellence. This product integrates seamlessly across the PagerDuty platform and external systems, empowering teams to rapidly manage complex workflows at scale and proactively address issues before they impact customers. Key Responsibilities Define and lead the technical vision, architecture, and strategic direction for PagerDuty Workflow Automation. Architect and deliver complex technical solutions spanning multiple engineering teams. Collaborate closely with engineering management, product leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders. Act as a recognized technical leader and subject matter expert in SaaS development, workflow automation systems, and cloud-native architectures. Own the end-to-end lifecycle of technology initiatives. Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, processes, and tools. Basic Qualifications Minimum of 12 years of professional software development experience with substantial experience in a technical leadership role. Experience working with large systems or event-driven platforms at enterprise-scale. Demonstrated expertise designing, implementing, and operating scalable SaaS solutions leveraging Java, Node.js, TypeScript, RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and AWS cloud services. Expert-level knowledge of DevOps methodologies including infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD tooling, observability monitoring, and containerization/orchestration. Proven track record of successfully delivering strategic cross-domain technical initiatives. Extensive experience influencing engineering direction across teams, setting technical roadmaps. Ability and willingness to participate in PagerDuty's on-call rotation as a leader of mission-critical systems. Preferred Qualifications Deep expertise in building complex workflow automation systems or event-driven platforms at enterprise scale. Experience defining system-level Service Level Objectives (SLOs), performance metrics, and operational excellence standards. Recognized thought leadership within the industry. Proven ability to effectively communicate with executive leadership. The base salary range for this position is 172,000 - 261,000 USD. This role may also be eligible for bonus, commission, equity, and/or benefits. Our base salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range, which is subject to change based on primary work location, reflects the minimum and maximum base salary we expect to pay newly hired employees for the position. Within the range, we determine pay for an individual based on a number of factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills/competencies and experience.
