Staff Systems Integration & Software Engineer, Cell Manufacturing Join to apply for the Staff Systems Integration & Software Engineer, Cell Manufacturing role at Tesla .
What To Expect The Cell Equipment team is responsible for delivering high-capacity manufacturing systems to production. Our software manages tens of millions of cells simultaneously, and the Firmware team designs the controller architecture. Tesla seeks a systems integration and software engineering leader to develop high-performance firmware and ultra-reliable, safe equipment for various cell development projects, including Formation Manufacturing processes, Cell Qualification phases, and special applications.
The Engineer will perform systems integration and software development throughout all product build phases, from PCBA component and system design validation, factory acceptance testing, to production sustaining. The role involves collaboration between manufacturing and electrical design engineering during concept, implementation, and validation stages. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the architecture of one of Tesla's ongoing cell programs, demonstrating excellent organizational and communication skills and a drive to innovate.
The team is open to Palo Alto, CA, and Lathrop, CA as alternative locations.
What You'll Do Outline controller requirements based on system performance specifications
Evaluate new manufacturing processes for controllability and system fit
Collaborate across departments (Cell Process, Manufacturing, EE, Power Electronics) to make design decisions on controller architecture, representing the firmware organization
Translate algorithms into software, design software architecture, and implement firmware
Manage firmware lifecycle from prototype to high-volume production, ensuring high-quality C code in a real-time embedded environment
Test, validate, and troubleshoot controller implementations; collaborate with validation teams to enhance regression tests
Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to assess system robustness
Prototype embedded software to evaluate concepts on various manufacturing systems
Develop scripts (Python) to analyze fleet performance and optimize software/hardware on existing and future processes
Address complex problems with limited guidance, including hardware bring-up and prototyping
What You'll Bring Experience leading technical efforts from concept to production, with skills in writing requirements and system diagrams
Proficiency in developing real-time safety-critical software (C/C++)
Mentorship experience with junior developers
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field, with practical experience in power electronics controls or battery electronics
Understanding of system validation processes (not a validation role but essential for success)
Strong electrical engineering knowledge, troubleshooting skills
Familiarity with safety-critical development frameworks (DO-178, ISO 26262, IEC 62304)
Knowledge of communication technologies (Ethernet, CAN, MQTT, Serial) and embedded technologies (ADC, PWM, SPI, UART, I2C, PMIC)
Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
