*Job purpose*Read on to find out what you will need to succeed in this position, including skills, qualifications, and experience.The Structural Engineer II position is responsible for developing designs and calculation packages for various miscellaneous metal (aluminum, steel, stainless steel, bronze), wood, and glass fabrications. Items analyzed include but are not limited to structural calculations of stairs, building facades, canopies, skylights, exterior/interior building cladding, and installation hoisting checks. The calculations are evaluated with compliance with code regulations and specifications. The Structural Engineer II role collaborates with other design staff and external design teams for each project to maximize efficiency while maintaining code compliance and public safety.*Duties and responsibilities** Analyze and design miscellaneous metal fabrications and make appropriate decisions based on project specifications and budgets* Establish appropriate loading and criteria based on codes, specifications, and engineering judgment* Apply codes and standards as appropriate for aluminum, steel, stainless steel, bronze, wood, and glass* Follow and support process improvement in best practice engineering standards* Develop FEA models as necessary to analyze structural systems and components* Generate project calculations for review by external design team (Architect/Consultant/GC)* Review, interpret, and apply project specifications to materials and designs* Read and interpret project architectural and structural drawings* Manage outsourced structural engineering as required. Review third-party calculation packages for submission, along with budgets, change orders and schedule.* Provide support and coordination to operations team, factory, and field personnel as needed* Use education and company provided training to further develop required skills* Periodic visits to site to inspect installed scope and prepare reports covering all structural concerns* Additional items as required by Management*Qualifications*Qualifications include:* B.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering* Licensed P.E. in the states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California preferred.* 5+ years’ experience within the analysis, calculation, and structural design of design/build architectural products.* In-depth understanding of architectural and construction design concepts including processes of manufacturing and site installation.* Ability to read, understand, and navigate architectural and structural contract drawings and AIA job specifications.* Experience communicating engineering concerns in layman terms to external design teams (* Experience with AWS welding procedures, including tracking and writing AWS WPS, PQR, and WPQR certifications.* Engineering management experience preferred, including hiring of new engineering employees, training new employees, department budget and cost tracking, managing the engineering schedule of work, hiring engineering firms as needed, sending purchase orders, and tracking engineering change orders.* Experience with engineering of custom Façade work, including Storefront, Curtainwall, or Window Wall.* Experience with calculation software like MathCAD is preferred.* Capability with 2-D and 3-D FEA packages such as IES- Visual Analysis, Ram Elements, Strand-7, SJ Mepla or similar.* Basic ability with CAD tools such as AutoCAD and Inventor is preferred.* Ability to travel as required (Approximately 1 day every month).* Strong spatial visualization skill.*Working condition*This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.*Physical requirements*The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.*Direct reports*This position’s does not have direct reports.*Position type/ expected hours of work*This is a full-time position. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Some overtime may be required per business demands.*Travel*The position will require travel to job sites as required.
