Overview
Kimley-Horn is looking for a motivated Electrical Engineer with substation design experience to join our Power Delivery team in Portland, Oregon (OR). This is a great opportunity for a mid-level engineer to grow into a senior technical and project management role while working on challenging and impactful power delivery projects.
Position Overview: We are seeking an engineer with approximately 8 years of experience in high-voltage substation design who is ready to take on more project management responsibilities. This role will involve coordinating multidisciplinary teams, working closely with clients, and supporting both technical and delivery aspects of substation projects
Responsibilities
Support project management efforts for high-voltage substation projects (69kV to 500kV+)
Assist with planning, scheduling, budgeting, and overall project coordination
Perform and review physical substation layouts, equipment selection, and design drawings
Coordinate with civil, structural, and protection/control engineers to ensure integrated project delivery
Communicate with clients to provide updates, gather feedback, and ensure satisfaction
Help prepare proposals, cost estimates, and project schedules
Maintain quality control and ensure compliance with applicable standards
Contribute to mentoring junior engineers and designers
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EIT required; PE preferred or in progress)
Approximately 8 years of experience in substation engineering (physical, P&C, or both)
Familiarity with relevant industry standards (NESC, IEEE, ANSI,
Strong organizational, coordination, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Experience working with utilities, EPCs, or consulting engineering firms preferred
