OTTO’s opportunity:
Our Sustaining Electrical Engineer will support the electrical designs for fielded products at OTTO Engineering. You will be responsible for troubleshooting and implementing resolution for factory and field returns. You will participate in circuit design to modify existing products. You will support the operations team by resolving component obsolescence issues and qualifying production first articles. You’ll be working as part of a collaborative, and highly capable team to support and sustain communications and situational awareness products for public safety and military applications.
Specifically, the Sustaining Electrical Engineer will :
Develop (document, design, test, support) solutions to product design defects including circuit re-design, and component changes
Review legacy BOMs/components for accuracy & consistency between Altium library, PLM databases, and component prints
Collaborate across the Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, and Quality teams
Triage, troubleshoot, and diagnose products to root cause
Qualify production supplier changes by developing and executing verification tests
Collaborate with suppliers, and update technical documentation
Author technical documentation such as test plans and reports, rework instructions, schematics, layout, and BOMs
Collaborate with supply chain to resolve component obsolescence issues
Document and present findings to the greater engineering team
Develop non-production test and debugging tools (test boards, test boxes, cables, etc.)
Create Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
Participate in DFMEAs and Design Reviews
Assists with other related duties as required or assigned
What you’ll need to bring to the table:
We are looking for: BSEE, BSEET, or equivalent
5+ years of directly related work experience (Design or Sustaining Engineering)
Prior experience in consumer, audio, or portable (battery operated) Electronics
Passion for sustaining electronics in the production lifecycle phase
Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout software (Altium is a plus)
Demonstrated ability to debug to root cause electrical issues
Problem Solving and Electrical Engineering fundamentals
Familiarity with common PLM software or other ERP systems/databases.
Detail oriented, methodical, and creative problem solver
Good Communication and Collaboration skills
Embedded computing knowledge is a plus
