Job Description
Paradigm is seeking a Systems Engineer Consultant for a short-term, onsite engagement to analyze, troubleshoot, and migrate a critical Fill Services application currently running on Windows XP. This system interfaces with PLCs and handles barcode scanning and fill control logic within a manufacturing environment. The goal is to modernize the platform by migrating it to Windows 11, ensuring continued performance and compatibility.

Type: 4 - 6 weeks contract
Location: Portland, OR | Onsite

As a Systems Engineer Consultant you will:
  • Review and understand the legacy Fill Services application and its integration with PLCs
  • Troubleshoot system issues and identify causes for malfunction
  • Determine feasibility and steps required to migrate the solution to Windows 11
  • Assess and recommend hardware/software upgrades as needed
  • Understand and work with KepServer, GenBroker, and SQL Server
  • Deliver clear technical documentation and a scoped project plan
  • Collaborate onsite with IT and operations staff for access and alignment


Requirements
Our skills and experience wish list includes:
  • Strong experience with Windows systems, including migration from legacy versions
  • Proficiency in either C++ or C# (ability to read and reverse engineer code is essential)
  • Knowledge of SQL Server (queries, performance, integration)
  • Familiarity with PLC systems, Ladder Logic, and industrial automation protocols
  • Hands-on experience with KepServer and GenBroker (or similar middleware tools)
  • Ability to work with minimal documentation and translate observed behavior into functional understanding
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial automation environment is strongly preferred
