Systems Engineer
Our client is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support critical infrastructure and security operations within a dynamic and collaborative IT environment. This role offers an opportunity to contribute immediately to high-impact initiatives involving modernization, automation, and remediation across legacy and cloud-based systems. The ideal candidate is proactive, solutions-oriented, and skilled in delivering secure, scalable, and efficient systems administration.
This role is a hybrid model in Portland, Oregon.
Systems Engineer Responsibilities Administer and maintain on-premise and cloud-based Microsoft server environments, including directory services, endpoint management, and infrastructure integrations.
Implement and optimize security tools, conduct compliance audits, and remediate risks across server, application, and file share ecosystems.
Lead or support the migration of legacy infrastructure and file systems to modern platforms (e.g., OneDrive, SharePoint, InTune, EntraID).
Troubleshoot system degradation, address infrastructure performance issues, and resolve outstanding service requests related to authentication, access, and firewall configurations.
Automate repetitive tasks, improve monitoring frameworks, and document systems integration and operational workflows to support long-term improvements and transparency.
Contribute to broader initiatives focused on passwordless authentication, identity management, PKI key management, and NTLM to Kerberos transitions.
Collaborate with internal teams to coordinate system upgrades, service transitions, and security enhancements.
Systems Engineer Qualifications Proven experience supporting Windows server environments, including Active Directory, SCCM/MECM, Entra/AzureAD, Exchange, and Microsoft 365 services.
Strong working knowledge of infrastructure security, conditional access, compliance policies, and cloud-first architecture.
Demonstrated expertise in automation and scripting tools such as PowerShell, Python, Terraform, or Ansible.
Understanding of multi-domain architecture, virtualization (e.g., VMware), and high-availability configurations.
Skilled in identifying and mitigating security risks, managing certificates, and executing audit-driven remediations.
Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and work independently in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
High school diploma or GED required; relevant certifications (Microsoft, VMware, cloud security, etc.) strongly preferred.
Experience in a public sector or compliance-regulated environment is a plus.
