ABOUT THE ROLE
The Transmission Planning Engineer will be responsible for performing technical modeling and analysis to identify prospective transmission interconnection opportunities for utility-scale solar and energy storage projects, as well as supporting projects already in the interconnection queue through ongoing study and development activities. You will generate deliverability screenings, system impact study results validation, develop and maintain python-based programs for power system network modeling and analysis, participate in market stakeholder engagement processes, and assist in the preparation and submittal of interconnection applications.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Conduct technical studies with power flow simulation tools to determine optimal points of interconnection for Clēnera's portfolio of solar and storage projects by assessing injection capacity, withdrawal capacity, network upgrade risk exposure, and design requirements for interconnection facilities.
Provide support for the preparation and submission of interconnection applications, including transmission service request management.
Develop and maintain Python programs and state-of-the-art tools to post-process simulation results, condition power flow models, and automate point of interconnection screening studies.
Support project due diligence and assist with risk analysis to business development and origination teams on potential greenfield development, project acquisition, and active pipeline opportunities.
Understand tariffs, business practices, interconnection requirements, study methodologies, regional transmission expansion plans, and system performance evaluation criteria.
Participate in the review and validation of system impact studies and engage in discussions with transmission owners and reliability planning coordinators.
Coordinate with external consultants to ensure timely delivery and updates of plant models for interconnection applications, including resolving study deficiencies and reflecting project design changes as they occur.
Engage in market stakeholder sessions to keep up with transmission planning, interconnection, and regulatory updates and understand how they affect our projects.
Collaborate with individual department, as well as cross-functionally with other departments within the organization.
Maintain organizational excellence in terms of project timelines and deliverables.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, energy engineering, or related field. Master's degree in electrical engineering with a power systems emphasis is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in renewable energy development, consulting, electric utilities, or with a regional transmission planning coordinator.
Technology: Proficiency with steady-state power system simulation software such as PSSE, TARA, and PowerWorld.
Strong Python programming skills, including experience with data analysis libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy), API integration, and developing reusable scripts to streamline analytical and reporting processes.
Microsoft Office Suite, and an ability to learn company-specific software programs, tools, processes, and machines.
Preferred Experience: Experience with Generator Interconnection processes in US-based whole organized markets and vertically integrated markets including but not limited to WECC, CAISO, SPP, MISO, PJM, and SERC.
Experience in creating and validating plant models for short-circuit, and dynamic studies in PSSE, PSCAD, PSLF or related software.
Experience with market optimization theory, congestion, curtailment, and basis studies using production cost modeling using simulation software such as PROMOD and PROBE.
