The Network Engineer will be responsible for the design, deployment, and maintenance of network infrastructure across multiple county locations. Duties include managing domain services, SSL certificates, firewalls, VPNs, and coordinating with ISPs. The role requires both remote support and onsite installation of network equipment as needed. A focus on network performance, security, and reliability is essential.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Manage DNS and domain renewals for mywakulla.com, vpn.mywakulla.com, and mywakullaatdc.com.
- Renew and manage SSL certificates for secure access and communications.
- Oversee and maintain network infrastructure across multiple county sites.
- Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot firewalls and VPNs to support secure remote access.
- Set up and secure wireless networks, including performance tuning and coverage optimization.
- Perform onsite installation of network hardware including switches, firewalls, and access points.
- Coordinate with ISPs (CenturyLink/Lumen, Comcast, Uniti) to manage service issues and demarcation points.
- Document network topologies, configurations, and update technical documentation.
- Monitor network performance and ensure high availability and security standards are met.
- Collaborate with IT teams and vendors to support evolving infrastructure requirements.
Qualifications and Skills
- Network+ or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Networking, or a related field (preferred).
- 3+ years of experience designing and supporting network infrastructure in a distributed environment.
- Proficient in managing domain names, DNS records, and SSL certificate renewals.
- Experience with firewall and VPN configuration and troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of wireless networking and security protocols.
- Ability to work independently and respond to both remote and on-site network issues.
- Excellent documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills for coordination with vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Experience with public sector or multi-site network environments is a plus.
