You will be joining a team of engineers that provide the U.S. military and intelligence communities with operational advantages, using machine learning, software-defined radios and protocol reverse engineering to develop advanced capabilities for research and operational prototypes, applying innovative research to some of our government's most critical challenges. As a Wireless Communications Research Engineer... You will conduct wireless communication systems engineering research activities in support of Cyber Operations, Special Operations, and Homeland Protection Mission Areas. You will be responsible for researching and developing innovative solutions for military and government sponsors. You will apply problem solving and analysis to areas related to telecommunications, remote sensing, anomaly detection, etc. You will lead the research and development of innovative solutions to solve complex problems in the field of wireless communications. You will identify appropriate algorithms and approaches for solving critical communications problems using advanced signal processing, data processing, and machine learning techniques. You will develop software prototypes of novel signal processing approaches. You will document work in formal technical reports and informal memoranda and present work to sponsors and the technical community. You will support testing of prototype and operational systems working closely with sponsors to ensure mission success. Qualifications: You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... Have a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or another related technical field. Have at least five years of relevant experience in wireless communications engineering. Have demonstrated, strong teamwork and interpersonal skills along with effective oral and written communications skills. Are capable of working on projects independently. Have the ability to travel within the continental United States; travel to sponsor sites local to APL may also be required. Have the ability to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Have at least five years of experience in commercial and/or government Wireless Communications Engineering. Have hands-on experience in some combination of the following implementation languages: MATLAB, Python, C++/C, PyTorch, Tensorflow.
