About Daedalus Industrial

At Daedalus Industrial, our aim is to redefine the level of achievable efficiency in all aspects of industrial automation. From project discovery to final equipment implementation, we're pursuing best-in-class services and products. We develop and deliver innovative, robust, and future-proof solutions that prioritize scalability, precision, and client alignment. Our team thrives on solving complex problems with right-sized solutions-bridging engineering expertise with practical implementation.

As an Applications Engineer on our Automation team, your primary focus will be upfront project development. You'll play a leading role in understanding client needs, conceptualizing solutions, pricing those solutions, and translating them into clear, actionable proposals.

Position Summary

This role is ideal for a technically fluent engineer who enjoys early-stage engagement, thrives in client-facing environments, and can bridge the gap between technical feasibility and commercial viability. While your primary contributions will be pre-contract, you will also provide continuity and technical guidance through project execution, ensuring a smooth handoff and alignment with client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Discovery & Client Engagement
    • Lead discovery efforts for prospective automation projects, including site walks, stakeholder interviews, and data gathering.
    • Build relationships with client stakeholders and serve as a technical point of contact throughout the proposal process.
    • Identify and document operational challenges, process inefficiencies, or upgrade opportunities that can be addressed through automation.
  • Solution Development & Proposal Engineering
    • Conceptualize automation solutions that align with client needs and Daedalus' standards for scalability, modularity, and efficiency.
    • Develop preliminary system architectures including PLC/HMI/SCADA platforms, Robotics Systems, machine layouts and mechanical feasibility, I/O strategies, network layouts, and control philosophies.
    • Generate technical writeups and pricing estimates for proposals, balancing accuracy with flexibility.
    • Author clear, persuasive proposal packages that include scope definitions, functional overviews, and cost breakdowns.
  • Internal Coordination & Project Handoff
    • Present proposed solutions for internal project management and engineering teams, providing the context needed for accurate and timely execution.
    • Participate in scope reviews and design kickoffs to ensure alignment between the proposal and final implementation.
    • Support the execution team with clarifications, design intent, and limited ongoing technical guidance.
  • Lifecycle Involvement (As-Needed)
    • Remain engaged throughout project delivery to ensure continuity and address edge-case issues or client feedback.
    • Support FAT/SAT or commissioning efforts when aligned with your domain knowledge or project involvement.

Job description is not all encompassing and other duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–7 years of experience in automation/controls engineering, systems integration, or pre-sales engineering
  • Strong technical fluency in industrial automation systems (PLC/HMI/SCADA platforms, VFDs, robotics, machine design, instrumentation, industrial networks)
  • Demonstrated experience in estimating, proposal development, and client-facing engineering roles
  • Familiarity with Rockwell, Siemens, Ignition, Beckhoff, AVEVA Systems Platform or similar platforms is highly desirable
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts into client-facing language
  • Comfortable working independently in dynamic, and technically challenging early-stage project environments
  • Comfortable working with Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software for preliminary design or modeling activities associated with the conceptualization of solutions
