Position Summary
The Application Engineer III is responsible for developing detailed technical proposals for Benshaw’s custom motor control solutions. This individual serves as the technical liaison between sales, engineering, and the customer — owning the front-end of the order process from RFQ through hand-off to engineering. Key responsibilities include reviewing specifications, managing proposal timelines and priorities, initiating project kick-off meetings, and providing high-level project oversight. The role demands strong technical acumen, the ability to work independently, and occasional customer-facing travel to support the external sales team.
Location: Remote in United States

Primary Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with external sales teams and customers to develop application-specific motor control solutions.
  • Analyze customer specifications, identify technical requirements, and determine deliverables and constraints.
  • Prioritize RFQs based on win probability and resource availability.
  • Review contractual terms and support pre-award activities, including bid conferences when needed.
  • Prepare complete quotation packages and support front-end project management.
  • Initiate and lead internal kick-off meetings to transition awarded projects to engineering.
  • Assess orders and determine if escalation to Program Management is needed.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for technical communications related to proposals.

Established Success Measures
  • Achievement of sales volume and booking targets per the annual operating plan.
  • Accuracy and completeness of quotations.
  • Meeting or exceeding project quotation KPIs.
  • Contributing to profitability through strong pricing strategy and value-driven proposals.

Required Skills & Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical background.
  • 7–10 years of experience in applications engineering, design/sustaining engineering, or technical sales.
  • Must have motor control experience, including soft starters and/or VFDs.
  • Experience in an electronics or industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to configure complex custom systems with minimal guidance.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10–20% based on customer/project needs, including possible international travel
  • Proven ability to work independently and meet deadlines consistently.

Preferred/Additional Skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D/3D); SolidWorks experience is a plus.
  • Strong foundation in electrical engineering and power electronics.
  • Experience with medium voltage preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present technical content effectively.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • A collaborative mindset with a commitment to customer service and team-based execution.
