Aviation Products Systems (APS) is a well-established and rapidly growing aviation company with over 20 years of experience. APS specializes in the design, assembly, and manufacturing of high-quality aircraft brake discs and linings for the general and business aviation markets.
Job Description
The individual will prepare design and certification data for replacement aircraft parts using reverse engineering practices in accordance with FAA AC 21.303-4. They ensure that design features, materials and processing are consistent with the functional performance and safety requirements for its aircraft system installation and within standard manufacturing practices. They will also build certification documents to show compliance with requirements for Test & Computation PMA (Parts Manufacturing Approval). They will actively coordinate with internal and external resources to shape decision making (ex. Business development, project managers, manufacturers, technicians, FAA DER and engineers). Work is project based and primarily autonomous with potential for growth in engineering leadership.
Essential Responsibilities
- Research part function, operating conditions, and failure modes (including criticality classification) to guide engineering decision making
- Draft sketches, models and drawings of parts and assemblies in SolidWorks
- Determine part tolerancing based on function, dimensional data, manufacturability and inspection
- Determine appropriate material and process specifications based on material analysis and testing
- Prepare production drawings using ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T and internal standards
- Develop certification documents using FAA AC 21.303-4 guidelines and obtain FAA approval
- Provide engineering support for sales, procurement, manufacturing, and receiving
Experience and Skills
- Five years of relevant work experience (design, certification, manufacturing)
- CAD/3D modeling design experience (SolidWorks preferred)
- Familiarity with aerospace specifications and processes
- Demonstrated general knowledge of drafting standards and GD&T
- Skilled in writing technical documents
- Detail oriented and highly organized
- Must have great communication skills
- Experience with aircraft components and systems is strongly preferred
- Shop time or other hands-on experience is preferred
- Experience in reverse engineering is preferred
- Understanding and familiarity with FAA standards is preferred
Education
- Bachelor's degree in engineering
