Project Overview: Bechtel has been appointed by The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) to provide Construction Management Services for Phase II (BSVII) of The BART Silicon Valley Program. The Program further extends the BART system from the Berryessa Station in north San Jose, through downtown San Jose, and continuing to Santa Clara University. This landmark project is a six mile, four-station extension, linking the Phase I terminus at the Berryessa/North San Jose BART station to the Santa Clara Station in the City of Santa Clara. BSVII is planned to include a 54-foot single-bore tunnel, three underground stations, one at-grade station and a maintenance facility. Job Summary: In this role, you will manage a team of Field Engineers with client-side responsibility for monitoring numerous aspects of the General Contractor’s performance as it pertains to low and medium voltage electrical installation, including quantity verification and validation, safety and quality oversight, technical inspection, testing and commissioning knowledge. Your recommendations will ensure that the Contractor’s field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. You will take direction and provide day-to-day assistance to the CP2 Resident Engineer (tunnels). The role is full time site based at the field office at the Newhall Yard and West Portal construction site. The Newhall Yard is the site for the launch facility for the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and will also house all the required facilities for operations during construction of the tunnel, including the pre-cast tunnel lining production facility, grout plant, electrical distribution, substations, and muck away infrastructure. Ahead of the TBM launch, the Contractor will construct a variety of power and utility lines to including the installation full-service electrical substation. A main component of this position is to directly supervise and manage the construction of this substation and the electrical hookups and electrical feeder lines to the TBM. #LI-SP1 Major Responsibilities: Specialization & Expertise Provides knowledge of a broad range of electrical systems including power system design, substation design, fire alarm design, lighting design, load flow studies, communications design, grounding design and equipment selection. Ensures contractors are following the relevant industry best practice and specification. Provides technical consultation support to projects and contractors as needed. Quantities Leads the verification of commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required. Safety / Quality Control Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely. Technical Proactively considers continuous learning or show interest to pursue appropriate learning activities STR / Subcontract Coordinator Reviews and approves inspection test plans Education and Experience Requirements: Required bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13  years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience​ Required Knowledge and Skills: High-Voltage Equipment Installation Transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, busbars etc. Air/Gas Insulated Systems (AIS/GIS) Insulation coordination & clearances
Grounding & Earthing Systems Ground grid design and installation Soil resistivity testing
Testing & Commissioning CT/VT loop tests, relay checks SCADA/protection system validation Megohmmeters, Doble sets, TTR tools
