Job Summary
The Cloud Automation Engineer provides expert support for Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) hybrid cloud environments, helping to modernize and standardize cloud technologies across the enterprise. This role plays a key part in implementing and supporting cloud solutions for strategic initiatives using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation frameworks, and DevOps methodologies.
The position is responsible for developing and maintaining hybrid cloud architectures, building automation to manage cloud configurations, and ensuring cloud environments align with MNIT standards, security requirements, and enterprise strategies. The Engineer also assists in resolving technical issues, coordinating with agency partners and vendors, and contributing to continuous improvement of MNIT's cloud technology stack.
Additionally, this role supports Research & Development efforts by identifying, testing, documenting, and implementing new tools and approaches that enhances hybrid cloud environments. This role works closely with architecture, engineering, and security teams to ensure adoption of best practices, strong documentation, and effective collaboration across the organization.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at 600 North Robert Street, Saint Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis. Employees will be required to meet current telework eligibility requirements.

Position requires a minimum of three (3) year of IT related experience in cloud platform support, infrastructure automation, server administration, and scripting-based automation.
Experience must include: Implementing and supporting virtualization solutions across public and private cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, VMware, Hyper-V, and Azure Local. Deploying and managing infrastructure configuration using tools such as Azure Ansible Automation Platform, Ansible, Orchestrator, SCCM DSC, Azure DSC, Puppet, Chef, or Terraform. Implementing and supporting modern development pipelines and applying DevOps methodologies, including infrastructure-as-code (IaC) practices. Supporting and administering Linux and Windows server operating systems. Developing automation using shell scripting, Python, PowerShell, or Bicep. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner that facilitates mutual understanding. Customer-focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution-oriented problem-solving to deliver positive user experiences. Education in Information Technology (IT) or an IT related field may substitute for experience as follows: a master's degree for eighteen (18) months of experience; a bachelor's degree for one (1) year; and an associate's degree for six (6) months.
Preferred Qualifications Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues using hypothesis-based analysis and methodical root-cause evaluation. Experience preparing clear, concise, and well-structured technical documentation or reports. Knowledge of research and analytical methods used to evaluate emerging technologies. Ability to analyze complex technical issues and implement effective solutions under tight deadlines or high-pressure conditions. Knowledge of formal system analysis methodologies.
