Job Overview:
The Controls Engineer has expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for themselves and others and to serve as a leader and mentor to Automation Technicians and Maintenance Technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and troubleshoot Siemens and Allen Bradley PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, barcode/vision systems, and Fanuc robotics
Support and implement automation changes for new product launches
Diagnose electrical and mechanical failures using schematics, meters, and HMI diagnostics
Work with servo drives, VFDs, barcode readers, and other automation devices
Standardize electrical components for CNCs and assembly lines
Troubleshoot communication issues on Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, and ProfiNet
Design and develop control systems for production, utilities, and safety equipment
Provide mentorship and technical support to maintenance and engineering teams
Conduct error-proofing and support corrective actions and COPQ improvements
Ensure compliance with government and customer standards (IATF 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
Maintain documentation, backups, and product/process data
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and engineering change management
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Systems, or Manufacturing preferred)
2+ years of experience with industrial control systems in manufacturing
Proficient in Siemens, AB PLCs, Ladder Logic, Structured Text, SCADA systems (e.g., Ignition)
Familiar with Python and C++ programming
Strong understanding of machine control standards and equipment specifications
Skilled in project management and cross-functional team collaboration
Proficient in Microsoft Office and technical presentations
