Job Overview:
eShocan is seeking a highly skilled Battery Development Automation and Controls Engineer to join our Powertrain Battery Development and Test team. In this role, you will support the design, development, and integration of build and test equipment for in-house battery development. You will also coordinate with cross-functional teams to scale production and ensure high-quality standards throughout the battery and powertrain development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
Interface equipment with higher-level factory systems such as MES and SCADA
Track Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and lead continuous improvement initiatives
Design and develop equipment tailored for specific throughput capacity and product requirements
Collaborate with equipment suppliers on controls component selection, electrical cabinet design, and cable/power distribution
Create standards for hardware, software, safety, and maintenance of industrial controls (e.g., conveyance, material handling, joining, dispensing, inspection)
Develop multi-phase control systems to support various product lifecycle stages
Work closely with manufacturing engineering to ensure production-friendly designs
Integrate external manufacturing processes into the overall production strategy
Analyze and enhance manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and reduce cost-both internally and with contract manufacturers
Qualifications/Experience: 6+ years of automation and controls engineering experience, including design and calibration
In-depth knowledge of Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs , HMIs, I/O systems, and drive hardware/software
3+ years experience in industrial robotics programming and testing (Fanuc preferred)
Proficient in PLC programming (Ladder Logic, Function Block, Structured Text)
Familiar with communication protocols such as Profinet , Ethernet/IP , and IO Link
Skilled in high-level programming languages such as Python , C# , SQL
Hands-on experience taking discrete automation systems from concept through commissioning
Working knowledge of CAD software including AutoCAD and CATIA
Strong organizational skills: schedule tracking, managing open items, meeting planning
