Controls Design Engineer
New Today
As a Remote Controls Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and integration of control systems that optimize the performance, safety, and reliability of machinery, equipment, or automated processes. You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to develop schematics, implement control logic, select hardware components, and ensure that all systems meet operational and regulatory requirements.
This role requires a strong foundation in control theory, PLC/HMI programming, industrial automation, and electrical design. It is suited for individuals who thrive in a multidisciplinary, detail-oriented engineering environment and can deliver high-quality solutions while working remotely.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop control systems and logic for machinery, robotics, industrial equipment, or automation systems
Create detailed control schematics and wiring diagrams using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN)
Develop and test PLC, HMI, or DCS programs (e.g., Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Mitsubishi, ABB)
Select appropriate sensors, actuators, drives, and control components for each application
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system compatibility, safety, and reliability
Perform system simulations, risk assessments, and failure mode analysis to validate control strategies
Support FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), commissioning, and troubleshooting of control systems remotely or on-site as needed
Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., IEC, UL, NFPA 79, ISO 13849)
Document design specifications, user manuals, technical drawings, and test procedures
Participate in design reviews, quality audits, and continuous improvement efforts
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Control Systems, or related field
2+ years of experience in control system design and integration
Proficiency in PLC/HMI programming (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text) and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET)
Experience with electrical design tools (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical)
Familiarity with industrial automation platforms and safety systems
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and standards
Strong communication and time-management skills in a remote work environment
