Nesco Data Center & Infrastructure is seeking an Onsite Critical Facility Engineer in the Greater Bethesda MD area. Contract : 6 months to 12 months
A leading technology-driven organization is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineer to support and oversee critical data center infrastructure and vendor operations. This role involves driving engineering excellence, ensuring operational continuity, and fostering a culture of psychological safety and ongoing improvement as the company continues its transition into a modern tech organization. Role Overview
The Senior Engineer will play a vital role in managing and optimizing data center facility operations. This includes overseeing mechanical and electrical systems, coordinating vendor efforts, and executing essential projects. The position is suited for individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities and who bring strong technical knowledge in HVAC, electrical systems, and data center operations. Key Responsibilities Support and mentor a 24/7/365 team of facilities professionals and engineers
Maintain and operate facility systems, including power (UPS), cooling (HVAC), backup generators, and safety controls
Investigate and resolve complex issues, provide incident analysis and documentation
Manage vendor activities and service contracts
Oversee facility-related projects, ensuring they meet scope, budget, and schedule targets
Identify and address potential risks to prevent operational disruptions
Participate in equipment testing and commissioning of both new and existing systems
Monitor and manage site-wide mechanical and electrical capacity
Ensure successful delivery of infrastructure upgrades and changes
Work closely with external teams and stakeholders to support project goals
Manage escalations efficiently, ensuring alignment with internal priorities
Support budget tracking and cost management
Uphold operational protocols, safety procedures, and compliance standards
Qualifications Extensive experience in mission-critical, round-the-clock facility operations, including problem-solving and emergency response
Strong understanding of environmental health and safety compliance and audit preparedness
Deep knowledge of electrical distribution, system redundancy, and failover protection
Physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders up to 30 feet, and working at heights up to 45 feet
Comfortable working in a variety of indoor/outdoor conditions, including limited lighting and variable weather
Ability to navigate uneven or rough terrain, and operate in confined or difficult-to-access areas
Willingness to work with energized systems from low to medium voltage
Must maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record
Experience operating a range of equipment including vans, trucks, forklifts, aerial lifts, and ATVs (with certifications where required)
Skilled in using diagnostic and fault-finding electrical tools
Comfortable with computer-based work, including spreadsheets, documentation, and reporting tools
Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, systems, and equipment
Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of summarizing technical details and project updates clearly
Experience Requirements 5+ years in operations or equivalent technical experience
At least 4 years in a hands-on engineering or facilities environment
