You'll play a key role in ensuring data systems are reliable, scalable, and efficient, while contributing to the optimization of data workflows for performance and usability. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to gather data requirements, assist in architecting data solutions, and apply best practices in data processing, storage, and management.
What you'll do
• Assist in building and maintaining reliable data pipelines that move data across systems such as Snowflake, Oracle, AS400, SQL Server, Salesforce, and external partners using APIs, AWS S3, and/or GCP buckets.
• Work with senior engineers to develop and automate cloud-based data workflows. Help improve existing data processes for better efficiency and scalability, while learning to take ownership of components of the solution.
• Contribute to a high-performing data operations environment by helping automate tasks, uphold SLAs, and improve data quality. Show curiosity and creativity in solving diverse data challenges with innovative solutions or custom frameworks when needed.
• Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and business partners to develop data solutions that support predictive models, dashboard, and other reporting needs.
• Stay responsive to shifting business and data priorities, assisting in the timely delivery of project milestones and support tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Help write logical and physical database structures and maintain accurate documentation. Support efforts to define and update metadata in the data dictionary.
• Integrate and adapt existing database tools and products to meet specific business needs with guidance from senior team members.
• Support the development and application of internal standards, security guidelines, and software acquisition practices to help maintain data integrity and protect sensitive information.
• Collaborate as part of a project team to assist in planning, scoping, and delivering database-related tasks under supervision.
• Use database manuals and team resources to improve knowledge of database management systems and participate in revisions to support ongoing improvement.
What you'll bring
• 5+ years of experience working in data-centric roles, preferably within retail or similarly complex environments handling large-scale data sources.
• Solid understanding of software development best practices, including agile methodologies, version control, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, automated testing, and operations.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and automation using scripting languages, primarily Python and Bash; familiarity with additional languages is a strong plus.
• Proven experience designing and building ETL-ELT pipelines in both cloud and on prem environments, with exposure to data modeling and integration using APIs and tools like SAS.
• Proficient in SQL and experienced with databases such as Oracle, Snowflake, and others; capable of writing complex queries for large datasets.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD orchestration and deployment automation using tools like Jenkins, Ansible, Kubernetes, and Git-Hub.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python or Java preferred), with practical, hands-on experience.
• Experience with workflow automation and scheduling tools such as Airflow and UC4 is a plus.
• Familiarity with business intelligence platforms like Tableau, MicroStrategy and Essbase.
• Ability to work with machine learning models and translate insights into actionable business value is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking skills, with the ability to work independently or collaboratively. Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
• Active learning mindset with the ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and methodologies. Capable of understanding the broader implications of new information for both current challenges and future decision-making.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
• Skilled in monitoring systems, identifying performance bottlenecks, and applying corrective measures.
