Fuel Data Engineer SME, McLean VA Job Description Fuel is seeking a Data Engineer to join our growing team. The Data Engineer will manipulate data and data flows for both existing and new systems. Additionally, they will provide support in data extraction, transformation, and load (ETL), data mapping, data extraction, analytical support, operational support, database support, and maintenance of data and associated systems. Candidates will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that requires experience with large-scale database development, file manipulation, data modeling, data mapping, data testing, data quality, and documentation. Duties may include: Develop complex data flows or enhance existing pipelines. Resolve hardware/software compatibility and interface design issues. Conduct investigations and tests of considerable complexity. Research emerging technologies to assess their impact on applications. Contribute to technical documentation updates. Troubleshoot complex ETL problems and support customers. Advise hardware engineers on machine characteristics affecting software systems. Prepare reports on analyses, findings, and project progress. Provide guidance to less-experienced engineers. Serve as a technical team or task leader. Skills and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience. 10+ years of software engineering and ETL experience. Experience with data flows in NiFi or Pentaho. Strong organizational, coordination, interpersonal, and team skills. Desired Skills: Proficiency in languages such as Java/J2EE, C, C++, SQL, XML, XQuery, XPath, Ruby on Rails, HTML/XHTML, CSS, Python, Shell Scripting, JSON. Knowledge of server OS like Windows, Linux, and cloud infrastructure. Strong problem-solving skills. Understanding of database methodologies.
