About the Opportunity

ClearGov is looking for a highly productive, growth-oriented DevOps Engineer who will be a member of our growing team. This role offers the chance to work with modern DevOps technologies in a collaborative, mission-driven environment while making an impact on how public sector agencies serve their communities .

This opportunity provides hands-on experience across the full DevOps spectrum – from CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code to cloud monitoring and security best practices. Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitoring & Observability: Implement and refine monitoring, logging, and alerting systems using tools like AWS CloudWatch, Datadog, and Grafana/Prometheus to ensure high availability and quick issue detection. This includes handling platform-level issues related to performance or inaccessibility, as well as auto-generated tickets for various types of issues.
  • Automation: Develop automation scripts and tools (including potential use of AWS Lambda or similar) to streamline routine operations, deployments, and system maintenance tasks.
  • Infrastructure Management: Assist in designing, implementing, and maintaining ClearGov’s AWS cloud infrastructure (e.g. ECS clusters, Lambda functions, Aurora databases) to support the ClearGov SaaS platform’s growth and reliability.
  • User access and SSO: Configure new clients with SSO when needed. Troubleshoot issues related to SSO, user login, and single-sign-on.
  • CI/CD Pipeline Development: Build and enhance continuous integration and deployment pipelines (using AWS CodeBuild and GitHub) for efficient, automated software releases.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Write and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code templates (Terraform) to provision and manage cloud resources, ensuring consistent and reproducible environments.
  • Container Deployment: Support the deployment and orchestration of containerized applications using AWS ECS and Docker, optimizing for scalability and performance.
  • Security & Compliance: Contribute to implementing cloud security best practices (IAM role management, secrets management, etc.) and ensure DevOps processes meet compliance and security standards.
  • Collaboration & Troubleshooting: Work closely with software engineers, QA, and Support  to troubleshoot infrastructure or deployment issues, and proactively improve build/deployment processes for smoother releases.
Critical Skills/Experience:
  • Experience: 1+ year of experience (including internships or academic projects) in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or related software engineering roles.
  • Cloud Familiarity: Hands-on experience with AWS or similar services relevant to our stack – for example, deploying or managing resources in ECS, Lambda, Aurora (MySQL), CloudWatch, etc.
  • Monitoring: Experience with modern observability tools and metrics platforms (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana) for monitoring applications and infrastructure .
  • CI/CD Tools: Familiarity with building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools like AWS CodeBuild/CodePipeline, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar) and an understanding of configuration management principles.
  • Containers: Understanding of containerization (Docker) and basics of container orchestration (ECS, Kubernetes, or similar platforms).
  • Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail when diagnosing and resolving technical issues.
  • Database Knowledge: Comfort with MySQL or other relational databases (ability to write SQL queries, understand database performance).
  • Programming Skills: Experience with Node.js (our application stack) or another programming language, especially in the context of automation or build scripts .
  • Security: Understanding of cloud security best practices (network security, IAM, etc.).

Compensation:
  • In the spirit of transparency, we are excited to share the base salary for this position is $95,000 - $110,000  exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you are hired at ClearGov, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as skills, interview performance, education and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary for the role. Hiring beyond the base range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package (more information on benefits listed below).
