Contract or contract for hire option Location: Northeast Minneapolis, MN Onsite role Conversation rate range is $90,000 - $105,000 per year DOQ's.
The Electrical Engineer II has a demonstrated knowledge of and an ability to apply standard engineering practices toward problem solving associated with the design, development, and manufacturing of complex electronic instruments per product specifications.
This level of engineer is expected to be able to accurately design, develop, perform new product and continuation engineering activities in electrical hardware and firmware development, develop test protocols, interpret test results. and operate more on a broader scope of a project. The Engineer II takes some direction from Senior Engineers and Project Leads; however, work is more functionally independent than an Engineer I.
What Will You Do? • Design, test, and debug complex electrical circuits, components, assemblies, processes and/or equipment to ensure compliance with specifications, quality standards, and customer needs • Identify and evaluate opportunities for component redesign to reduce purchase, manufacturing, assembly and/or testing costs • Evaluate potential solutions to engineering problems for feasibility, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness, and analyze new and unfamiliar problems with senior engineers or project leads, as needed • Manage own work flow and develop a deeper understanding of product lines • Assist in the preparation of project budgets and schedules to support project planning and execution • Utilize knowledge to design tests and validations of project work • Design or update existing firmware code to meet product requirements, following established firmware development processes for design documentation, coding conventions, and code review standards • Perform root cause analysis of hardware/firmware bugs and communicate proposed changes through engineering drawings, updated code, and documentation • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Marketing, Quality, and Regulatory) to design, test, and debug embedded systems • May travel to customer sites to provide customer service support and help resolve problems • Initiate and manage work flow for Engineering Change and Deviation to support prototype development, component obsolescence resolution, product qualification, and approvals • Provide engineering support to manufacturing personnel to solve production problems • Effectively communicate project activities during project reviews, stand-ups, and one on one meetings • Complete other assignments and special projects, as requested
Required • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field • 3+ years of electrical engineering experience in a product development environment • Knowledge of C and C++ programming language in embedded applications • Experience with analog and digital circuit design, testing, and troubleshooting techniques • Proficiency in debugging tools, such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters • Embedded system design knowledge • Knowledge of EMC testing and troubleshooting • Familiarity with I2C, SPI, USB, UART, and communication protocols
Desired • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field • Product development experience on a project from the concept phase through launch phase • Experience in embedded systems and high-level programming languages like C/C++ • Digital signal processing and programmable logic design • Experience with FPGA programming and VHDL/Verilog • Experience in PCB layout and grounding principles
