Electrical Engineer

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, deployment and maintenance of a broad range of electrical systems and equipment. Responsibilities include analysis, wiring plans and drawings, installation and repair of equipment. Uses independent judgment and exercises discretion in executing their duties. This position requires a high degree of confidentiality. Essential Functions
1. Develop projects from concept to completion.
2. Maintain control of project expenditures to avoid cost overruns.
3. Supervise contractors or vendors to maintain control of project schedules and costs.
4. Mentor and evaluate electrical engineering staff and design team.
5. Work with project managers to ensure work meets business needs, applicable codes and standards of quality.
6. Plan details for working procedure by determining replacement needs or new material required and develop a logical approach to correct the problem.
7. Analyze circuits, wiring diagrams and drawings to install and/or repair calibrated service or replace electronic devices and systems.
8. Receive wiring diagrams, specifications and instructions from supervisor covering emergency and scheduled repairs; installation and electrical inspection work to be performed.
9. Perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical theory and principles, statutory codes, properties of materials and principles of operation of electrical equipment.
10. Start up and shut down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in compliance with OSHA requirements.
11. Service electronic equipment by checking, testing, and replacing faulty components, circuits, printed circuit boards, and similar electronic devices.
12. Install, repair and maintain communication cables, power distribution cables and splicing pieces as required.
13. Advises and caution operators and mechanics about potential electrical problems and inherent dangers involved.
14. Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous electrical equipment noted and corrective action taken.
15. Will perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Required Education and Experience/Skills:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; vocational school and/or equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
2. Five (5) years plus prior experience related to electrical systems.
3. Satisfactory completion of formal apprenticeship or completion of in-plant training program.
4. Analytical ability and the capability to work both independently and in a team environment.
5. Computer skills and project management skills including management of multiple projects.
6. Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
7. Effective organizational and good written and verbal communication skills.
8. Ability to climb in overhead structures; work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work.
9. Meet company’s substance abuse testing requirements as a safety sensitive person may be subject to random substance abuse checks.
10. High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required. High degree of attention and care required to prevent injury to others when responsible for flow of electrical power. Exposed to high voltage. Licenses or Certification (Required/Preferred):
1. Must maintain proper license.
2. Valid state motor vehicle operator’s permit to operate electrician’s cart and forklift truck for installation jobs. Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Travel:
No travel is expected for this position.
Work Environment:
The majority of the work will be performed in the production facility.
Physical Demands:
This position may require heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. or more.
