Inventory Ordering Engineer

Nordstrom is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented engineer to join the Inventory Ordering team to bring technical expertise to our projects and production systems. With the responsibility of building and supporting various applications and services in support of Nordstrom's Purchase Order Management systems, we are a significant part of the Nordstrom customer experience. We build out new features and experiences on the Java, AWS, GCP and Oracle technology stacks in an agile, team-oriented and collaborative environment. We encourage innovation and expect developers to take a high level of ownership throughout the software life cycle.

You'll play a key role in managing inventory ordering across multi-market, multi-channel environments, with a focus on improving the end-user experience. You'll own projects from scoping to deployment, troubleshoot issues proactively, and deliver scalable solutions.

Standout candidates will be comfortable working with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, and PL/SQL, and have experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP). You value clean, maintainable code, understand SOLID principles, and are passionate about automation and continuous improvement. This role is offered as hybrid in Seattle, WA. Candidates must be available to work in office at the Nordstrom corporate headquarters a minimum of 3 days/week to be considered for this position.

A day in the life...

  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable, reliable systems that drive Nordstrom's business forward.
  • Write clean, consistent, and elegant code, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement through practices like CI/CD and cloud migration.
  • Collaborate in a SCRUM team, participating in code reviews, sprint planning, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Support production systems, troubleshoot issues, and ensure smooth transitions from development to deployment.
  • Partner with business, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver enhancements and maintain system integrity.
  • Assist development manager with planning, analysis and definition of high-level software strategies and solutions through functional knowledge and an understanding of the enterprise business systems and industry.
  • Stay current with industry trends and apply new technologies to improve architecture and performance.
  • Ensure corporate policies and industry best practices are observed and followed in developed applications.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to support critical systems and ensure high availability.

You own this if you have...

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience and a baccalaureate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience required.
  • Strong frontend skills (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript) and experience with frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.
  • Backend expertise in Node.js, Java, .NET, or Python, and familiarity with RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Proficiency in relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • A passion for automation, performance monitoring, and building responsive, accessible applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • A proactive attitude toward learning, mentoring, and challenging the status quo.
  • Retail industry experience is a plus.

Pay range details:

$121,500.00 - $188,500.00 Annual This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more.
