Job Description
From a risk and potential hazard prevention perspective, collaborate with other design teams to review product designs, create recommendations using engineering judgement to enhance our designs, and approve design direction. Oversees testing of engineering prototypes for related matters. Communicates and coordinates with departments to obtain information and assistance. Supports the creation and sustainment of a product safety standard for North America.
Position Responsibilities may include:
- Will work with the Daikin Design Engineering team to review residential and/or commercial HVAC-related products for risk and hazard prevention.
- The responsibilities of this position include the design, analysis, and documentation of related matters.
- Collaborate with product design teams on risk and hazard prevention using knowledge of mechanical, chemical, and/or electrical engineering principles
- Develop and document recommendations for product design changes to mitigate any identified risks
- Discuss recommendations with Design Engineering Safety Committee and gain approve for the design direction
- Support the product teams' schedules
- Oversee testing of engineering prototypes for related matters
- Communicates and coordinates with external departments to obtain information and assistance
- Supports the creation and sustainment of a product safety standard for North America
- Support the dissemination of the product safety standards to the Design Engineering department

- Manages projects and processes while working independently and with limited supervision
- Coaches and reviews the work of lower-level professionals
- Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex; takes a new perspective on existing solution
Knowledge & Skills:
- Knowledge of safety-related specifications and standards used in the HVAC industry (preferred).
- Software skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills - both oral and written
- Effective project management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience with product design in the automotive, appliance, or HVAC industry (preferred)
- Experience with design for six sigma (DFSS), design failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA), design of experiments methodology, tolerance analysis, value engineering principles, and parts standardization principles (preferred).
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or Related Field.
- Black belt or green belt certification (preferred).
