Job Description
PURPOSE SUMMARY.   Perform technical and specialized assistance for design and construction projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES.
Draft and design plans, maps, and detailed construction project drawings using the global positioning system (GPS) and surveying equipment.
Verify the correctness of dimensions, quantities, materials, and notes.
Assist in the field by surveying data collection activities and related special projects.
Gather and compile research information and maintain accurate computerized records.
Check the details of a range of construction drawings and designs.
Research property, easement, right-of-way, and maintain a filing system or survey notes, maps, and field survey books.
Manage projects through all phases.
Assist the public in person and by telephone with questions, respond to and resolve public inquiries and complaints with assistance as needed from the supervisor.
Responsible for the safekeeping of software, hardware, drafting equipment, and design specifications.
Drive to and from work sites and issue permits as assigned.
Represent the department at meetings and presentations.
Responsible for knowing and abiding by all department and county policies and procedures.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES. Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS.
A.  Education. Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Surveying, Drafting, or related field preferred.
B.  Experience. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a technical or engineering environment as a drafter and/or surveyor's/engineer's aide/technician. Experience with computers, including surveying Geographic Information System GIS/Arc View, or Auto Cad is preferred.
C.  Education/Experience substitution. In Accordance with County Policy.
D.  Licenses/Certifications. Valid unrestricted Driver’s License. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with County policy.
E.  Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver’s license record, etc.).    Must pass pre-employment background and driving record checks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION :
Knowledge of:
Various software programs including AutoCAD, ArcView, and related programs.
Proper methods to maintain accurate records.
Computer operation.
Applicable software.
General office equipment.
Skills:
To design, read, and interpret surveying projects and construction plans.
In computer operations.
To gather, plot, and research applicable information.
To work independently.
To organize and prioritize numerous tasks.
Ability to:
Communicate effectively, in oral and written form.
Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others
Compensation Range $19.76 - $31.59
