GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Palmas Restaurant Group is an Operating Participant of Walt Disney World. Palmas operates multiple restaurants and bars located at the Epcot theme park, Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, and Disney Springs. These operations include both quick-service and full-service locations, and all locations experience very high guest volume throughout the year.
The Chief Engineer is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the proper appearance and operation of the internal and external areas of all company locations. In order to be successful in this role, the candidate must be well-versed in skills such as general maintenance, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC and carpentry.
This individual will be responsible for building and maintaining strong working relationships with contractors and service companies. The Chief Engineer will monitor the performance of contract and service workers to ensure projects are completed in a correct, timely, safe and cost effective manner.
The Chief Engineer will provide leadership to the maintenance team. This person will be responsible for interviewing, selecting, training and coaching. The Chief Engineer must be able to build strong working relationships, effectively delegate responsibilities, maximize productivity and ensure accountability.
Finally, the Chief Engineer must uphold and maintain safety standards at all times, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal food safety/occupational safety guidelines.
WORK DUTIES
- Lead all maintenance functions for multiple locations, utilizing the Maintenance Team or external vendors/contractors to ensure proper operation and appearance standards are met
- Monitor and maintain the operation of all mechanical systems & equipment inside and outside each location
- Monitor and maintain the appearance standards ("Show Ready") inside and outside of each location
- Meet or exceed financial goals while maintaining quality standards
- Schedule repair and maintenance projects in such a way as to minimize downtime and/or disruption of restaurant operations
- Select, onboard and train new members of the Maintenance Team
- Provide leadership, guidance, development and continuous learning for the Maintenance Team
- Reward and recognize Maintenance Team members for exceeding expectations
- Coach and counsel Maintenance Team members when standards are not being met
- Maintain all necessary vendor/contractor information
- Identify, review and evaluate new contractors/vendors for price and quality comparisons
- Work closely with contractors/vendors to ensure timely and quality work at the best possible cost
- Follow established procedures for issuing and awarding bids to new or existing vendors/contractors
- Make decisions regarding establishing, maintaining, renewing and bidding service contracts
- Investigate maintenance quality issues and partner with vendors, contractors and/or company leaders to correct
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with Palmas Restaurant and WDW teams
- All other tasks as assigned
Position Requirements
WORK EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of five years of maintenance experience
- Managerial/leadership experience strongly preferred
- Previous experience with hotel/resort/theme park Food & Beverage operations strongly preferred
- Previous experience with a work order process
- Associate's degree strongly preferred; degree in engineering or a related field a plus
- Working knowledge of general maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, electrical and carpentry (relevant certifications a plus)
- Must have a stable work history demonstrating continuous growth and strong work ethic
- Past record of effectively building, developing and leading maintenance teams a plus
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work under pressure and in stressful situations
- Must have a past record of financial responsibility, including creating and working within budgets, maintaining material and labor costs, and managing inventory
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be well versed in safety regulations, including food safety principles and OSHA guidelines
- Must be able to work effectively in fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environments
- Must be able to stand, be mobile and perform repetitive tasks for up to 4 consecutive hours
- Must be able to lift equipment/food up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to climb ladders (up to 20 ft.)
- Must be able to work in hot and cold conditions as well as areas with limited space (as may be found in restaurant kitchens)
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English; Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays
- Must have on-call availability for emergency situations
- Must be able to arrive for all assigned shifts on-time
- Must be able to comply company appearance guidelines
