The Data Engineer, Flight Safety Analytics will help advance the Flight Safety organization supporting our Data and Decision Science team. This role will play a critical part in building and maintaining robust data pipelines to enable innovative solutions that derive actionable insights from complex aircraft and human-reported operational data. Empowering the application of machine learning models and artificial intelligence to solve complex business challenges.
Primary Functions:
Data Pipeline Development: design, build, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from diverse sources, including aircraft and human reported operational data. Data Readiness and Cleanliness; Ensure data is clean accurate, and well-structured for use by the Data and Decision Science teams, performing data validation and quality checks as needed. Data Accessibility: Enable seamless access to data for analysis, modeling and reporting, ensuring data is readily available in appropriate formats and systems. Data Maintenance: Monitor and maintain data pipelines to ensure consistent performance, reliability, and scalability, troubleshooting issues as they arise. Data Governance: Adhere to data governance policies, ensuring compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements, including proper documentation of data processes. Collaboration: Work closely with Data and Decision Scientist to understand data requirements and provide tailored data solutions to support machine learning and AI-driven insights. Documentation: Create and maintain clear documentation for data pipelines, processes, and workflows to ensure transparency and reproducibility. Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency. Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or equivalent combination of education and experience 2+ years of relevant work experience Proficiency in working with (CTE, window functions, temporal data) Proficiency in programing languages such as Python, SQL, or Java. Familiarity with data pipeline tools and frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow, or similar). Basic understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), and data storage solutions (e.g., SQL database, data lakes). Exposure to data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts. Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to work with complex and unstructured datasets. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Must be performing satisfactorily in present position. What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications) Master's degree Working knowledge of statistical/machine learning tools (e.g., Python, R, TensorFlow) preferred Working knowledge of "Big Data" solutions such as Hadoop, NoSQL, MapReduce, etc. preferred Working knowledge of API Consumption preferred Familiarity with machine learning concepts of AI applications. Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git). Knowledge of data governance and compliance standards.
