Job Description

Hardware Reliability Engineer

Interested in getting in at the ground floor of a new, disruptive company attacking an important multi-billion-dollar problem? Businesses and consumers continue to demand increasing data services at an exponential rate -- streaming, deep learning, analytics, loT connectivity, and more. What this means is higher performing CPUs, components, servers, and ultimately Data and Edge computing centers, all generating excessive heat that is increasingly difficult to manage with traditional cooling systems. Accelsius is developing revolutionary direct-to-chip, 2-Phase cooling technologies that empower and enable Server OEMs, Data Centers, Edge Computing Operators, and 5G Edge deployments to meet performance, sustainability, scale, and cost goals while serving this high-growth market for data services.

We are seeking a Hardware Reliability Engineer to lead the definition and execution of mechanical validation strategies for our advanced datacenter products. In this role, you will be responsible for specifying and coordinating key mechanical and environmental tests—such as shock, vibration, thermal cycling, and HALT—to ensure our systems meet demanding real-world reliability standards. You’ll work cross-functionally with hardware design, thermal engineering, manufacturing, and system integration teams to evaluate risks and drive robust design improvements.

This is a critical, hands-on engineering role requiring both technical depth and broad system-level awareness. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in physical/mechanical testing with a solid understanding of how datacenter hardware functions as a complete thermal-electromechanical system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define reliability and validation test plans for new hardware products, with a focus on mechanical and thermal stress conditions.
  • Lead and/or support shock & vibration, thermal cycling, HALT, HASS, and temperature/humidity testing activities.
  • Establish mechanical, thermal, and environmental test specifications aligned with product use cases and reliability goals.
  • Partner with hardware, mechanical, process, and system engineers to analyze test results, identify failure modes, and propose corrective actions.
  • Develop custom test setups, fixtures, and protocols as needed.
  • Drive root cause analysis (RCA) and provide feedback on design improvements.
  • Maintain test documentation, reliability dashboards, and reports for internal and customer-facing deliverables.
  • Collaborate with external test labs and vendors when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in hardware reliability, mechanical validation, or test engineering for electronics or datacenter hardware.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental testing standards (e.g., ISTA, MIL-STD-810, or similar).
  • Experience with HALT/HASS, thermal cycling, and vibration testing techniques.
  • Familiarity with thermal design, heat sinks, and system-level thermal behavior.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence design decisions.
  • Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in datacenter hardware, server systems, or high-density electronics.
  • Familiarity with refrigerant-based cooling systems, vapor chambers, or cold plate designs.
  • Knowledge of reliability modeling and prediction tools (e.g., Weibull analysis, FMEA).
  • Hands-on experience with environmental chambers, shakers, and data acquisition systems.

Why Join Us

  • Help shape the next generation of sustainable cooling and reliability solutions for datacenter infrastructure.
  • Work at the intersection of mechanical innovation, thermal systems, and high-performance computing.
  • Join a collaborative and mission-driven team pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in hardware design and validation.
