This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining electrical and control systems throughout their lifecycle, focusing on proof-of-concept, prototype, and production systems. The engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with safety standards and engineering best practices. Design electrical panels and systems using CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical), including schematics, wiring layouts, BOMs, and power budgets per NEC standards. Lead fabrication of proof-of-concepts, prototypes, and production systems. Create and execute electrical test plans to ensure product safety and performance. Generate and maintain clear, revision-controlled documentation (parts, assemblies, BOMs). Support field systems with maintenance, troubleshooting, and system upgrades. Drive compliance with internal and external codes, standards, and procedures (NEC, UL, FCC). Contribute to structured project planning efforts (Design of Experiments, project timelines). Participate in AT&S performance reviews and continuous improvement efforts. Collaborate with internal stakeholders for project delivery. Identify and support intellectual property protection activities, including patent filings. Travel up to 10% for project support, site visits, and technical collaboration.
Profile
Preferred Background: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. 3+ years of hands-on experience in product development and support of industrial electrical and control systems. Technical Proficiencies: Electrical CAD software: AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks Electrical. Electrical instrumentation (e.g., digital voltmeters, power/spectrum analyzers). Familiarity with NEC, UL, FCC, and other regulatory standards. Understanding of Canadian and international electrical codes is a plus. Experience in environmental and reliability testing of electrical systems. Bonus: Experience with robotics, PLC programming, and control systems.
