Job Description
Description:

CLX Engineering seeks an experienced Integration Engineer II in New Orleans with strong working proficiency in automation and conveyors, preferably in airport baggage handling systems (BHS). This is a unique position that blends engineering expertise with project management responsibilities, requiring an understanding of mechanical, electrical, logistical, and software interactions, all implemented with sound engineering principles.

Our Integration Engineer II must not only possess strong problem-solving abilities but also demonstrate excellent customer service and the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure. You will work closely with our airport clients, Project Management, and Controls Engineering teams. Strong documentation and communication skills are essential.

This role requires an individual who can act as both an engineer and a project lead. You will serve as a primary point of contact for electrical subcontractors, oversee material hand-offs and progress tracking, and be responsible for ensuring the technical execution of the project aligns with scope and expectations. You must be capable of commissioning systems, configuring networks (including DeviceNet to Ethernet conversions), and directing fieldwork, even making design adjustments on the fly as needed.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience in PLC troubleshooting and modification, particularly with Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, and bring a hands-on background in control panel design. You should be equally comfortable in a control room or an active airport environment. The role includes working with minimal supervision while receiving guidance from senior engineers and leaders. Ideal candidates will be confident, adaptable, and committed to project completion from both an engineering and operational perspective.

Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of solid experience in automation, especially with Allen-Bradley PLCs. You will be expected to demonstrate your technical skills during the interview process.

Our future employee must live within commuting distance to the Louis Armstrong International Airport with occasional travel to our Sanford, FL headquarters or other project sites as needed.

Our CLX Integration Engineer IIs are responsible for the following:

  • Design, install, and maintain electrical PLC control systems according to client specifications and industry standards.
  • Create and modify system designs, including electrical device layouts and wiring schematics.
  • Program, troubleshoot, and upgrade PLC-based hardware and software.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for subcontractors and vendors.
  • Coordinate material tracking and field execution to ensure alignment with project schedules and scope.
  • Supervise installation and testing processes, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Direct fieldwork and make real-time design decisions as necessary.
  • Commission and configure industrial networks (e.g., DeviceNet to EtherNet/IP).
  • Mentor junior team members and coordinate with cross-functional project teams.
  • Travel occasionally to Sanford, FL and to other project locations as needed.
  • This role may include physically demanding tasks such as climbing ladders, navigating restricted areas, operating in low light, dealing with extreme temperatures, and maneuvering through confined spaces in operational environments like airports.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Strong engineering foundation and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent time management, critical thinking, and communication (written/verbal/phone).
  • Minimum 5 years of automation experience, especially in PLC programming with Allen-Bradley.

  • Experience leading a team of controls engineers or vendors.
  • Ability to remain on your feet or walk through airport or plant environments for extended periods.
  • Adaptability to project environments that require field-level decision-making.
