As a Lead Backend Software Engineer, you will be part of our Platform Product Group, dedicated to delivering a trustworthy, scalable, and compliant architecture that enhances velocity, efficiency, and quality across multiple products and teams at Coinbase, ensuring a consistent and superior user experience.
About the Team:
The Risk Engineering Team is crucial in managing financial threats to both our business and users. By joining this team, you will help build a resilient platform and essential services designed to counter fraud at scale and improve our ability to recognize legitimate user behaviors.
Your Responsibilities:
Design and implement a state-of-the-art core Risk platform architecture that powers Coinbase.
Collaborate with stakeholders across various teams involved in developing Coinbase products and financial operations.
Help shape the strategic direction and execution of the Risk platform.
Oversee individual projects, managing priorities, deadlines, and deliverables using your technical expertise.
Mentor and guide team members on design best practices and coding standards.
Deliver high-quality, well-tested code that meets user requirements.
What We're Looking For:
A minimum of 10 years of experience in backend software engineering with Golang or a comparable language.
A demonstrated history of delivering impactful solutions that enhance significant risk management processes.
Experience in designing, building, scaling, and maintaining high-throughput, low-latency production services.
Proficiency in architecting and developing solutions for complex and ambiguous challenges with substantial implications.
Strong technical acumen in creating distributed systems capable of processing massive amounts of data.
Excellent communication skills to effectively convey ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
A relentless drive to set ambitious goals and the determination to achieve them.
A passion for contributing to an open financial system that connects people globally.
Preferred Qualifications:
Domain expertise in Risk Engineering.
Hands-on experience with Machine Learning models and their application in scaling risk management processes.
Experience in both startup environments and large corporations.

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual base salary for this position can range from $253,895 to $298,700 USD. Full-time offers from Coinbase also include eligibility for bonuses, equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).
