What you will do:

  • As a Lead Shipboard Network Engineer, you will oversee and execute the installation, configuration, and optimization of advanced shipboard Wi-Fi and network systems, ensuring secure, high-performance connectivity across the vessel.
  • You will act as the primary technical lead for assigned projects, coordinating team activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and serving as the key liaison with customers and stakeholders- often in dynamic, high-tempo environments.
  • Lead small technical teams on-site and offshore, setting daily priorities, assigning tasks, and ensuring all project milestones are met.
  • Coordinate directly with shipboard leadership, program managers, and engineering staff to align technical efforts with operational requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for troubleshooting escalations and client communications.
  • Oversee the installation, testing, and maintenance of shipboard Wi-Fi / 5G systems, cabling infrastructure, and IP networking equipment.
  • Lead configuration of network hardware and software, including routing, VLAN design, IP subnet allocation, and security implementation.
  • Ensure all installation work meets professional standards, with proper labeling, documentation, and integration into shipboard systems.
  • Direct the creation, review, and updating of technical drawings, schematics, and as-built documentation.
  • Conduct and supervise site surveys to define requirements for power, rack space, cabling, and equipment distribution.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network and connectivity issues both independently and with your team.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers and technicians on installation practices, safety compliance, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Maintain detailed project logs, technical reports, and client deliverables.
  • Lead projects in diverse locations, including shipyards, customer facilities, and at-sea environments.
  • Travel frequently - including internationally and offshore - for extended periods in support of installations, upgrades, and troubleshooting systems.


What you will bring:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in satellite communications and network engineering, preferably maritime.
  • Proven leadership in integrating, configuring, and maintaining shipboard satellite communication systems (VSAT, Inmarsat, etc.).
  • Strong technical expertise in LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, VoIP, and RF systems.
  • Skilled in reading and creating technical diagrams, schematics, and network documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with routers, switches, firewalls, and satellite ground station equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and client-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead in high-pressure environments.
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent (military/professional experience accepted).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Must be willing and able to travel extensively, including offshore and international assignments.
