Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) - iPhone Cupertino, California, United States | Operations and Supply Chain Description Apple MDEs are exceptional engineers responsible for providing comprehensive manufacturing and process solutions for key design features. This includes developing manufacturing processes, selecting and designing equipment, automation, and conducting strategic R&D. Define best-in-class processes to meet Apple’s design and operational standards. Develop and document processes, including parameters, consumables, and secondary operations to meet specifications. Collaborate with Global Supply Managers to establish supply chain requirements and select manufacturing partners. Lead manufacturing site activities during development and production ramp-up, resolving engineering issues. Utilize data analysis, DOEs, SPC, and other tools to drive process improvements. Identify and qualify equipment manufacturers and suppliers. Define part tolerances and specifications by demonstrating process capability. Lead process development in areas such as CNC machining, surface finishing, glass processing, assembly, and painting. Minimum Qualifications 3+ years of full-time mechanical manufacturing experience. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 25%). Preferred Qualifications BSc, MSc, or PhD in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering. Hands-on mechanical skills. Excellent communication skills. Experience with cosmetic parts and consumer electronics manufacturing. Self-starter with the ability to quickly learn new processes. Apple offers a competitive total compensation package, including base salary ranging from $157,200 to $236,700, stock options, benefits, and educational reimbursement.
