Job Overview
The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for implementing and maintaining safe, cost effective, and lean manufacturing processes to help service our customers.
Related job functions include writing specifications, working with vendors on capital improvement projects, designing tooling/fixturing, analyzing data, participating in Lean initiatives, designing/implementing cell layouts, and maintaining BOM's/Routes. An individual in this role must be able to work well with operators and the toolroom, as well as other departments such as maintenance, planning, and quality.
A Day In The Life
Key contributor for capital projects. Responsibilities include machine selection, cell layout, and financial justification. Will be working with operations, quality and product engineering to create and update control plans and engineering requirements for installation of equipment and production startup.
Compile project update reports and present to upper management concerning project timeline and budgets.
Assist in production cell layout to support new product launches.
Assist in new product validation and production preparation.
Implement activities to design new processes, modify existing designs, improve production techniques and develop test procedures.
Develop new processes and implement technical solutions to existing processes designed to improve quality and overall equipment efficiency (OEE).
Ensure the safety of our workforce by understanding, believing and supporting the concept of safety being the number one priority by such methods as considering ergonomics and other safety factors when developing or updating processes, workstations, etc.
Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations and develops recommendations accordingly. Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
Safe, cost-effective manufacturing processes which supply a first pass quality product to our customers on time.
Facilitate and support plant safety, environmental, and ergonomics efforts.
Participate in Kaizen events, sustainment activities and executing on lean improvement plans.
Assist in developing and implementing cost reduction initiatives through continuous improvement events.
Work with automation team to identify opportunities, plan, execute and control automation projects.
Perform other duties as assigned. What will help you thrive in this role?
BS Engineering
1-2 years of experience as a Lean or Manufacturing Engineer
MS Office proficient
SAP preferred
Prior CAD experience, NX or Inventor preferred
Prior design experience in assembly fixturing and machine guarding preferred
Organizational skills
MS Planner, Vizio, Power BI, and other 365 tools preferred
Prior experience in programmable drives, PLC, and other automation software/hardware a plus
Good communication/presentation skills
Self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects with minimal management direction
Lean/ Six Sigma Certification preferred but not required
Exposure to Lean and Quality Tools: DMAIC, Value Stream Mapping, 5S
