In the role of a Tooling Engineer you will acts as the specialist for injection molding tools. Work with the NPD Project team for new injection molding tools to prevent failures within the program to ensure quality product is delivered to the customer. The Tooling Engineer needs to react quickly and accurately to customer requests, understand all aspects of implementing tooling, understand and implement changes to tooling, and ensure no adverse impact to manufacturability.
This position is expected to perform other related duties in conjunction with other employees and departments contributing to the overall team effort, efficient process, and safe working environment. This position includes many essential components necessary for successful and efficient manufacturing, and as such, shares full responsibility for the final product delivered to the customer.
Performance will be based on execution of work, ability to meet projected timeline and budgetary commitments, ability to maintain expected levels of quality and control, communication, continual improvement, the ability to work in a team environment, and successfully coordinate the operations of multiple departments to achieve success.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Functions as a development specialist with a particular expertise in injection molding tools and issue resolution
Analyzes highly complex design problems and formulates engineering conclusions by the application of engineering and/or mathematical principles
Leads customer mold design reviews and part DFM discussions to understand impact to injection molding tool quality, durability, ease of maintenance, cycle time and efficiencies.
Ensures that injection molding tools meet Tooling Standards including safety, ergonomic and environmental requirements
Incorporates best practices and lessons learned into product/tool designs
Supports launch activities at the customer location as required
Create and control project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), project gantt charts, action plans, status updates, and budget tracking controls
Create RFQ’s for new tooling quotes and coordinate with suppliers
Provide support and generate customer quotes for tooling and engineering services
Communicates lessons learned to teammates and management for the benefit of other programs
Facilitates interaction with customer and internal management
Utilize the engineering change system to document and manage customer and internal engineering changes relative to injection molding tools and parts
Foster teamwork while participating in cross-functional project teams to facilitate the successful execution of project requirements and goals
Initiates PO’s and supplier sourcing approvals for required injection molding tools in accordance with company policies and procedures
Manages Tooling sources relative to timing, cost, and quality
Act in accordance with ISO and other regulatory requirements, and company procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned
Other Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Support initial production runs as needed
Design fixtures and secondary tools needed on new and existing projects
Maintain engineering and production files with proper paperwork and documentation
Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles for new product launches
Identify and execute improvement projects to existing manufacturing processes
Support standardization practices across manufacturing or engineering activities
Support continuous improvement of validation, project management, and other ISO and company processes and procedures
Essential Qualifications:
Proficient with Microsoft office including MS Project
Experience in use of ERP Systems, preferably IQMS
Must be well organized and detail oriented with an emphasis on accuracy
Able to work effectively in a team
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Able to work under pressure
Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma background/knowledge is preferred
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree is preferred
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience within the medical device industry.
Previous experience with lean manufacturing concepts.
ADA Requirements:
Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for occasional operation of a computer
Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about occasionally
Lift, move, or otherwise transfer items up to 30 lbs. occasionally
Occasional exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards
Travel by air or car occasionally

Annual Salary Range $83,000 - $103,000
