BACKGROUND:
DWK Life Sciences LLC (DWK) was created as a result of the merger of three industry leaders and provides the world’s laboratories and production environments with the most comprehensive range of labware for scientific research and technical applications, as well as solutions for storage and packaging. We manufacture a full range of precision glassware and specialty products for life sciences. We also offer products and services (vials, ampules, stoppers, septa, seals, caps, bottles, tubes, flasks, and value-added services) to customers seeking packaging solutions.
Company revenue is generated through four primary channels: Global distributors, National distributors, Direct field selling efforts, and online sales.
DWK supports four primary market segments: Laboratory, Pharmaceutical, Analytical Sciences, and Industrial glass.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Creative leader with an entrepreneurial vision to develop new and improved cutting-edge products/processes as required by current and future clients. Subject Matter Expert in applying Engineering Disciplines to effectively manage projects from ideation to completion. Will work in a fast-paced production environment and apply creative thinking to develop and design mechanical solutions to improve production efficiency and reduce scrap.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead technology development for production of glass products.
• Design and develop prints, schematics and associated documents and work closely with the Maintenance Team to ensure continuity from the design to the application of the mechanical solutions.
• Design in 2D and 3D using AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
• Provide mold/tooling review and facilities infrastructure support.
• Scope work, appropriate capital, and manage successful completion on time and under budget of strategic operational projects, ensuring individual and organizational compliance with and promotion of EHS first and ISO standards.
• Considers lean six-sigma techniques when developing or modifying products or processes for optimal outcomes.
• Provide Technical Support and be an integral part of any DWK strategy involving manufacturing and acquisitions of equipment.
• Effectively communicate all information regarding specifications about assigned projects to a broad range of internal and external clients, which may include Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Pricing, Technical Service, Product Managers, vendors, customers, etc.
• Provide root cause and corrective action based on customer feedback related to design and/or functionality of products.
• Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems.
• Reviews all change orders, contractor requests, etc. and makes recommendations.
• Initiate value engineering sessions, cost estimate reviews.
• Operates all equipment in a safe and professional manner while completing tasks on a timely basis.
• Works within the guidelines of ISO and EHS.
• May require travel to a customer or vendor production facility or industrial /manufacturing plant.
• Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Materials Science & Engineering
• 1+ years of related experience and/or training
• Proficient in 3D Design Software: AutoCAD or SolidWorks
• Background in Packaging and/or Glass/Plastic Manufacturing a Plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must have the ability to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Lift up to 40 pounds. Employee may be required to work weekends, holidays and be on-call on occasion. The employee may encounter controlled air conditions with frequent air changes and environmental exposure. Domestic / International travel occasionally.
