The Opportunity
Within the Mechanical Engineering department at Roche R&D Near Patient Care, you will help develop blood glucose meters, continuous glucose monitoring systems, and related application systems (e.g., test stands) for series productionall in accordance with relevant standards and regulatory guidelines. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be an integral member of an agile development team, directly contributing to the creation of high-quality, robust medical devices.
- You will actively contribute to taking innovative products from the initial idea to series production readiness and successfully launching them on the market. In the agile project team, you will work closely with the other colleagues and will commit to successfully complete the project together as a team.
- You are responsible for the development of the mechanical components. You enjoy getting involved in complex mechanical systems and understanding the interactions with other components. To this end, you will perform analyses on complex mechanical components and assemblies, create test plans with DoE, perform the tests, analyze and interpret the test results, and summarize all of this in technical documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Ideally, you can provide demonstrated knowledge of parametric mechanical CAD design and FEM simulation independently across several projects; through this work, you can incorporate changes resulting from your investigations directly into the product design.
- You will work closely with other departments and project teams, including operations and manufacturing. You will build the interface between the development and production teams, which is responsible for the development, construction, and implementation of the production line.
- You will collaborate with external partners such as injection molding suppliers is an additional aspect of your daily tasks.
Who You Are:
- You have a Bachelor's in mechanical engineering, mechatronics or medical technology (or relevant field of study) with 7+ years of experience; or a Master's in mechanical engineering, mechatronics or medical technology (or relevant field of study) with 5+ years of experience.
- You have 5+ years of professional experience in the development of mechanical components and assemblies. In doing so, you have an affinity for practical activities and like to understand technical matters in detail by practically investigating and testing them.
- Ideally, you have a basic level of knowledge of parametric design (Creo Parametrics, Solid Works) and plastics engineering, and have acquired and applied both preferably in a regulated medical device environment.
- You are knowledgeable in at least two of the following topics: plastic technology, sterile component design, manufacturing and automated assembly of plastic parts.
- You are characterized by the ability to work in a team, drive topics independently and self-motivated, have strong communication skills and search for solutions and not for problems. You want to make a difference, are flexible and always keep an open mind even in stressful situations.
Preferred:
- You have an advanced degree (e.g. PhD) in mechanical engineering, mechatronics or medical technology or a related field of study with 3+ years of experience.
- You have demonstrated experience in the area of agile methods and agile project management.
- You have strong interpersonal skills: Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication and influencing skills: has built and cultivated important relationships both inside an organization and externally. Has proven abilities to influence internal partners and stakeholders; seamlessly collaborates with colleagues/other parts of the organization.
This position is based on-site in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is not a hybrid position. Relocation benefits are not being offered for this position. The expected salary range for this position of $96,000 - $179,000 is based on the primary location of Indianapolis, IN. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and company performance.
