Mid-Level Liaison Engineer
Apex Systems is seeking Mid-Level Liaison Engineers to join a team in Portland, Oregon. This fully onsite role is ideal for proactive individuals who thrive in a hands-on environment and are eager to make real-time engineering decisions on the factory floor. You will serve as the engineering representative in production, partnering closely with manufacturing personnel to transform design into reality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and resolve production non-conformances through root cause analysis and engineering dispositions.
- Apply design principles to assess and resolve product and process issues throughout the product lifecycle.
- Research and troubleshoot technical, operational, and quality issues to develop final engineering solutions.
- Identify, document, and communicate deviations that may impact design intent or safety; recommend and manage resolutions.
- Develop and implement product and process improvements.
- Support Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and participate in design reviews.
- Represent engineering throughout the build, production, and post-production phases.
- Ensure supplier and build partner compliance with Boeing standards.
- Draft customer correspondence to support safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Participate in on-site repair teams, accident investigations, and support efforts.
- Analyze structural damage or modifications to determine safe jacking, shoring, and repair procedures.
- Design interim structural repairs and perform static strength analysis.
- Develop non-destructive testing procedures, tools, and standards.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited or equivalent program
- 5+ years of experience in structures, systems, design, or production engineering
- 2+ years of experience with Engineering Material Review Board (MRB) processes
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with experience in the following areas will be highly valued:
Materials Knowledge:
- Steel, aluminum, titanium properties and capabilities
- Forms such as bar stock, forgings, castings
- Post-machining processing
Machining Expertise:
- Geometry and sequencing for material removal
- Machining practices (broaching, honing, etc.)
- Load path analysis for complex shapes
- Surface condition assessment and FOD prevention
Dimensional Tolerancing (GD&T):
- True position, parallelism, bonus tolerance
- Drawing interpretation and fit-up analysis
- Spatial Analyzer modeling and metrology
Gear/Shaft Systems:
- Gear tables, spline profiles, runout measurements
- Installation patterns and bearing fits
Material Processing:
- Heat treatment, stress relief, peening, plating
- Finishing processes like anodizing and painting
Functional Testing:
- Diagnosing operational impacts at the aircraft level
- Acceptance criteria for RPM, torque, and clearances
Repair Techniques:
- Bushings, heli-coils, inserts
- Blending, reprocessing, corrosion protection
Typical Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience
- Master's degree with 3 years of experience
- PhD with 0-1 years of experience
- ABET accreditation is preferred but not required.
Shift Information: This position may require work across multiple shifts, including weekends and overtime. Shift assignments vary by site and are typically rotated.
