Overview:
Our client is currently seeking an OSP Engineer Associate II to join our team. This role involves the creation and modification of detailed drawings using CAD and QGIS based on sketches, layouts, or notes from field engineering. The successful candidate will produce and refine high-level designs to enhance manufacturing processes or product quality, ensuring drawings align with project specifications and comply with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate precise AutoCAD and GIS drawings for outside plant components such as fiber optic cables, conduits, manholes, hand holes, and poles, both aerial and underground.
- Support the planning and analysis for new construction of outside plant infrastructure and facilities.
- Have a comprehensive understanding of the telecom industry, specifically regarding outside plant operations, including knowledge of public rights-of-way, private easements, and utilities (water, sewer, electric, gas, etc.).
- Obtain knowledge of permit requirements from city, county, state, and local authorities, including traffic control and specialized permits (e.g., UPRR, Caltrans), and manage environmental permit processes.
- Liaise with local municipalities, telecom engineers, and construction teams to gather OSP records, ICGS, Assessor Maps, and other crucial documentation.
- Conduct site surveys and translate field notes to update engineering designs for conduits and cables in AutoCAD.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent work experience, with up to 2 years of related experience in telecom.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), AutoCAD, and preferably QGIS.
- Experience with GPON and Corning Flexnap products is beneficial.
- Strong skills in reading and interpreting blueprints, conduit prints, and floor plans, including permit drawing and application creation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction across various departments and external groups.
- Ability to multitask effectively in a dynamic environment, with a proactive and self-driven approach to tasks.
This role requires prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer, including keyboard and calculator use. Occasional lifting of items up to 25 lbs may be needed. The position demands good eyesight for detailed work and color perception, along with the ability to communicate effectively.
