SUMMARY: Responsible for coordinating and overseeing the maintenance, repair and safe operations of all the engineering needs for assigned vessels and equipment.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Serve as technical representative between vessel operators, contractors, and the client
•Develop and manage planned maintenance schedules, drydock periods, and repair plans and develop/monitor budgets.
•Review, approve, and monitor shipyard work packages, repair proposals, and contractor invoices
•Coordinate with classification societies, regulatory bodies, and ship management companies
•Provide technical oversight during repairs, overhauls, and capital projects
•Prepare technical reports, status updates, and documentation required by management
•Support vessel readiness assessments, condition surveys, and onboard inspections as needed
•Travel to shipyards or vessel locations for inspections and project supervision as required
•In coordination with procurement team, create PO’s/WO’s, review/approve requisitions and services. Complete PO’s of work performed, make adjustments and update financial information to allow for payment matching to the invoice
•Manage and negotiate contractor selection, contract management and contractors work by setting up service to vessels, ensuring regulatory inspections are scheduled timely and controlling expenditures within designated projects.
•Assist in the development and modification of preventative maintenance plans for vessel equipment.
•Ensure the vessel safety management system, engineering procedures, and policies are periodically reviewed, modified and implemented.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
A combination of education and experience gained while in the performance of duties that clearly demonstrate effective management of maintenance and repair of ocean-going ships. Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering or a related field preferred; USCG license and/or Maritime graduate preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
A recommended minimum of 3 years’ experience as a PE having managed and negotiated at least 2 shipyard availabilities for ships not less than 4,500 dead weight tons (DWT), more than 11,500 horsepower (HP), and with a contract award value greater than $3,000,000.00. Experience gained while employed by a shipyard or while serving in the military may be applicable towards meeting this requirement if the duties and responsibilities of the positions are substantially the same as a PE. This experience shall demonstrate their ability to effectively manage and negotiate complex projects such as shipyard dry dock overhauls and other types of repairs.
A recommended minimum of 4 years’ experience serving aboard commercial ocean-going ships of not less than 4,000 HP as either a Chief Engineer or a First Assistant Engineer. This experience shall demonstrate effective management of maintenance and repair of ocean-going ships.
TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY:
Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word. Knowledgeable of NS-5 ship management software, computer technology and processes preferred.
COMPETENCIES:
Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope. Ability to prepare, monitor and administer budgets, as well as perform financial analysis. Ability to indirectly mentor, coach, train and/or supervise employees.
Strong knowledge of ABS, USCG, and regulatory standards
OTHER:
•Valid driver’s license, Passport and TWIC card required.
•U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required due to federal contract requirements
JOB SCOPE: Position impacts multiple business units/segments.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside an office environment and also outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time.
