The ideal candidate will have expertise in scale-out architecture, compute and storage solutions, and will be responsible for establishing FinOps practices. Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with leadership and managing risks effectively. Additionally, the role requires proficiency in automation and scripting to enhance operational efficiency.

The Work Itself
Design and implement robust database architectures, particularly with Exadata.
Ensure high availability and scalability of database systems.
Utilize Python, Terraform, and Ansible for automating database and infrastructure tasks.
Develop scripts and tools to streamline operations and reduce manual effort.
Manage and optimize Linux-based systems that host database environments.
Troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues.
Design and implement comprehensive backup and recovery strategies.
Ensure data integrity and security through regular testing and validation.
Establish and manage FinOps practices to optimize cloud and infrastructure costs.
Collaborate with finance teams to align technology spending with business objectives.
Continuously assess and enhance database performance and resource utilization.
Implement tuning and optimization strategies.
Work closely with leadership to provide insights and reports on database performance and initiatives.
Communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.
Drive the planning and execution of database patching and upgrades.
Ensure minimal downtime and disruption during maintenance activities.
Design and implement solutions to ensure high availability of critical database systems.
Implement failover and disaster recovery strategies.
Oversee all aspects of database administration, including security, monitoring, and maintenance.
Mentor and guide junior database administrators.
Understand cloud computing concepts and how they apply to database architecture and management.
Evaluate and implement cloud-based solutions for database hosting and management.
Collaborate with network and storage teams to ensure optimal configuration and performance of database systems.
Address network and storage-related issues impacting database performance.
The Skills You Bring
BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject or equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience as Database engineer/administrator.
2+ years of experience working in an Agile setting with other developers, QA, Scrum Masters and Product Owners.
Technical Expertise:
Strong knowledge and experience with Exadata and other database technologies.
Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Terraform, and Ansible.
Linux Proficiency:
Deep understanding of Linux operating systems and command-line tools.
Cloud Computing:
Awareness of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their database offerings.
Understanding of cloud architecture, deployment models, and services.
Network and Storage:
Deep understanding of networking principles and storage solutions relevant to database systems.
Problem-Solving:
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex database and system issues.
Communication:
Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration and reporting.
Leadership:
Experience in leading projects and teams, with a focus on driving results and innovation.
FinOps Knowledge:
Understanding of financial operations related to technology and cloud services.
