Principal RF Embedded Software EngineerDepartment: Autonomous SystemsEmployment Type: Full TimeLocation: Redondo BeachCompensation: $195,000 - $240,000 / yearDescriptionAs an Principal RF Embedded Software Engineer your core responsibility will be to own the design, testing, and delivery of flight RF software systems for space missions anywhere from low earth orbit to mars.ResponsibilitiesWork with a cross-disciplinary team to define and implement RF software communications requirements on a mission-by-mission basis, implement RF software architectures, and bring up RF systemsGuiding a team through algorithm implementation, debugging DSP issues, and making architectural decisions on system performance, latency, and precisionDevelopment of algorithms for RF digital signal processing and calibrationDesign state of the art data processing pipelines to support high speed communication modemsWork with ground software teams to develop and test satellite to ground data pipelinesMinimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical field10+ years experience in writing software for wireless systems in critical applicationsGood debugging skillsAbility to work in the lab with RF equipment including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and software defined radiosProficient in writing embedded C/C++ codeExperience with FPGA development in Verilog/VHDLPreferred Skills and ExperienceExperience integrating and troubleshooting FPGA's with embedded LinuxExperience writing and debugging communication modem software such as Symbol Synchronizers, multi-rate resamples, PLL's, and Frame SynchronizersExperience implementing baseband software for systems using PSK, GFSK, or APSKExperience with common RF protocols like SRS4, DVBS-II, and CCSDSExperience writing software or firmware for a space environment (space link budgets, ground station integration)Experience designing real-time DSP pipelines on Xilinx Ultrascape+ MPSoCsExperience with GNU radio flowgraph development and troubleshootingFamiliarity with satellite spectrum licensing laws, agencies, and standardsExperience in a startup or agile development environmentStrong understanding of the major blocks of RF signal modulation/demodulationProficient in testing and troubleshooting RF devicesAdditional Information:Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity.
