As a Product Development Engineer at HMTX Industries, you won't just be part of the team, you'll be a driving force behind the future of our flooring. This role is a dynamic blend of hands-on technical work and strategic collaboration.
You'll lead the charge in evaluating product performance, crafting advanced testing methods, while continuously enhancing quality and innovation. We're looking for someone with a strong foundation in materials science or polymer engineering, a knack for problem-solving, and the ability to independently tackle technical projects. You'll partner closely with manufacturing and commercial teams, ensuring our flooring not only meets but surpasses market expectations in durability, functionality, and competitiveness.
What You'll Bring to the Table
- Elevate Product Performance: Conduct in-depth evaluations of flooring, ensuring top-tier mechanical performance, durability, and industry compliance. Coordinate testing with internal and external labs.
- Pioneer Testing Methodologies: Design and implement cutting-edge testing protocols for polymer compounds and flooring systems, constantly refining them for accuracy and real-world relevance.
- Optimize for Excellence: Collaborate with manufacturing to understand product behavior, identify issues, and propose material/process improvements that boost reliability and longevity.
- Bridge Cross-Functional Gaps: Serve as a technical liaison, ensuring seamless alignment between R&D, production, engineering, and commercial goals.
- Stay Ahead of the Curve: Conduct market research, uncover emerging trends, and benchmark products against competitors to inform strategic development.
- Drive Projects: Lead smaller-scale development projects from concept to completion, defining goals, timelines, and deliverables.
- Transform Data into Insights: Analyze test results to draw conclusions and prepare detailed technical reports/presentations for decision-making.
- Fuel Continuous Innovation: Stay current on advancements in materials science/testing, proactively contributing ideas for new products and improved formulations.
Who We're Looking For
- Experience: 3+ years in product development (ideally flooring, construction materials, or polymer-based industries).
- Technical Skills: Hands-on with mechanical testing equipment and laboratory instruments.
- Project Management: Proven ability to manage technical projects independently.
- Problem Solver: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Collaborator: Strong communication skills; adept at working across technical and commercial functions in a dynamic matrix organization (different time zones).
- Attitude: A positive, open, and collaborative work attitude.
- Bonus: Experience in market research and competitive analysis.
Essential Skills & Education
- Software: Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Monday.com or similar project management tools.
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field.
- Alternative: 10+ years of experience as a lab technician specializing in mechanical polymer testing and analysis.
- Nice to Have: PMP or other project management certifications, ASTM International Training for F06 standards, Certified Lab Technician (CLT).
Work Environment
- Schedule: Standard hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:30 pm EST. Flexibility is required for occasional evening meetings, conference calls, or additional work outside of core hours due to the global nature of the role. The schedule may occasionally extend to evenings and weekends.
- Work Environment: Primarily indoors in a lab & office environment.
- Physical Demands: The ability to perform a variety of physical tasks, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing, bending, stooping, standing, walking, turning, and pivoting is required with frequent movement throughout the workday. Must be able to lift, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs regularly, with occasional lifting of heavier objects (up to 80 lbs). Ability to walk, stand, and lift for extended periods (over 50% of the time) is essential. Must have good visual acuity, peripheral vision, and color vision. Ability to respond quickly to sounds is required. Some working travel in and out of the US might be required
The salary range for this role is $80K to $100K a year and a yearly bonus potential. This range is applicable for jobs performed in the Eastern and Central Time Zones. An employee's pay position within the pay range will be based on several factors including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, and business organizational needs.
