Summary:
The Project Engineer – Alternative Delivery supports the planning, design coordination, and
execution of alternative delivery projects, including Design-Build, Progressive DesignBuild, and CMAR. This role provides day-to-day technical support bridging design
development and field execution, with a focus on constructability, design integration, cost
and schedule alignment, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders to
successfully deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.
This position is intended for an early- to mid-career engineer (0–10 years of experience)
with exposure to both construction and design environments on heavy civil or water
infrastructure projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support coordination with the Designer of Record (DOR) and discipline leads during
concept, preliminary, and final design phases to ensure alignment with project
goals.
• Participate in constructability reviews to identify scope gaps, sequencing conflicts,
and cost or schedule risks, and support development of mitigation strategies.
• Assist with design QA/QC reviews in accordance with project Quality Management
Plans and company standards.
• Track design deliverables, review comments, and closure of design review items to
maintain schedule adherence.
• Support field teams with technical review of drawings, RFIs, and submittals to
ensure accurate execution of work.
• Assist with quantity takeoffs, work planning, and coordination between design
intent and construction means and methods.
• Participate in project meetings, subcontractor coordination, and issue resolution to
support efficient project execution.
• Support cost control efforts, schedule updates, change management, and pay
application reviews.
• Support collaboration between owner, designer, and contractor teams consistent
with alternative delivery best practices.
• Assist with early contractor involvement efforts, value engineering, and risk
workshops to improve project outcomes.
• Help align design decisions with project budget, schedule, and constructability
objectives.
• Maintain organized project documentation and tracking logs in accordance with
company procedures.
• Support proposal pursuits and development of technical exhibits, as needed.
• Assist Project Managers with reporting, coordination, and project closeout
activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may assist in
coordinating efforts across project teams and disciplines.
Requirements:
• Working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and submittal
processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface
effectively with internal teams, clients, and project partners.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field
required.
• 0–10 years of experience in heavy civil, water resources, or infrastructure projects
preferred.
• Exposure to construction and/or design coordination (internships and co-ops
acceptable).
• Experience with Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, or CMAR projects
preferred.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward Professional Engineer (PE)
licensure preferred.
• Experience with Bluebeam, Primavera P6, or similar project management tools
preferred.
